Thank God for Javier because he's been the only person who served like an ancor providing me support from all the tension. As sad as it sounded, I spent more time counting hours till i get to work and dreading when closing hours drew closer. That's how pathetic my life was. Home was so suffocating I looked for the slightest excuse to avoid being around Christian. This morning was another clear example of how I tried to avoid being in the same room as him. However, he seemed to have caught on, and of course, a threat followed. I had a big meeting today and couldn't be bothered to care. Work was always a welcoming distraction these days as despite everything, the atmosphere here felt more comfortable than at home. I breezed through the activities of the day with ease and we were finally done with the multiple meetings for the day.
"You sure are happy despite this crazy day." Javier said with an arched brow as people pooled out of the boardroom and Ipicked up the files left back. .
"I guess I was in the zone today." I replied.
"You're terrifying when you're in good spirits. " he sighed.
I chuckled at his remark "So... I saw you and Michael's sister at the gala. You guys seem to get along." I whispered to Javier as we stepped out of the boardroom.
He stopped momentarily before replying with a stiff yes.
"You're getting all flustered." I smirked.
"No I'm not. " he denied instantly.
"Awww, you're so cute. " I teased as we continued walking.
"Stop." He said but I chuckled and continued teasing him.
We were so caught in our conversation we didn't notice Christain was seated on the sofa at the waiting area where Javier's secretary was and my face instantly fell. She glanced at us with unease. I don't blame her. I must admit, Christian could be scary at times.
I decided to speak first to ease the tension."Hey.", I greeted with a smile, walking up to him. He didn't seem pleased at all by the exchange he saw earlier. I could feel it.
"I'm so sorry sir,... ma'am, but he insisted on staying here and..." Libi tried explaining.
"It's alright Libi. No need to worry about it." I reassured with a weak smile but I could see how tight Javier's jaw was locked as he narrowed his eyes in disdain.
"I didn't know you were coming. " I said embracing him. He grabbed me tight on the waste and placed a rather firm kiss on my cheek.
"Just wanted to surprise you. " he looked down at me with a smile before offering me a bouquet. "For you." He said.
"Oh thanks sweetheart. You didn't have to. " I replied with a smile.
"I wanted to." he insisted caressing my cheek. I couldn't express how bone chilling that felt. But I didn't want to make a scene. Not here with so many people watching.
"Why don't we go in my office and you wait in there. I still got a couple of things to round up with Javier. " I proposed
"You still got work? It's past working hours, no?" He questioned and I swallowed hard. What do I do? Javier who had been surprisingly silent throughout the exchange finally decided to speak.
"She has a lot to brief me on given her position and all..." he said with his eyebrow arch, his tone authoritative and challenging.
I could feel Christian suppress a scowl and I had to act quick. I pitied poor Libi who was caught up in the cross fire of all this.
