Aisha

"How far with lunch?" He asked as he stepped into the kitchen.

"Almost done. You know how our meals take forever to get ready."

"I know and I trust it's gonna be amazing as always." He said kissing my hands. "With this magical hands of yours all could only turn right."

"I hope so. You know how your mom gets so picky at times and considering the fact that she hates my guts and still resent me for your breakup with Larissa." I replied.

He chuckled. "C'mon...she doesn't hate you. Just give her some time. She'll love you when she gets to know you more and spend some time with her. I'm sure she had love it and who knows, you two most become best buddies."

"Yeah...right. I doubt that." I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes as I turned of the gas and turned to face him.
His mother hated me to the bones and there was nothing that could convince me of otherwise. I would have well done without her being here at all but I can't completely reject his mother or run away from this if I want to be part of his life and also become his family. Besides, she's the one who rejected me not the other way around. And the fact is, he would always defend his mother or find an excuse for her attitude. He was a little bit of a "mama's boy" in a way... given that he was an only son in a family of 4 girls. He virtually became the man of the house after his father's passing but he took on pretty good. He was hardworking, diligent, optimistic, patient and most of all understanding. I guess it all comes from growing in a house full of girls.

He stopped before me and held my face in both of his much larger hands and looked into my eyes, a smile about his lips. His smile was what I enjoyed the most about him. It had a warmth to it that always managed to make me feel better. But he also had the needy-horny side which despite having restraint over it most at times, tends to slip...Not that I mind any of these but let's say I wasn't ready for anything yet. I know it sounds ridiculous, you may be like .

"It will be fine sunshine. I promise." He reassured me placing a kiss on my forehead. Then he placed a passionate kiss on my lips as he moved closer. He kissed me again before trailing kisses down my neck. I must admit, was fantastic kisser.(not better than JD..). My eyes popped open at the absurdity. Where the hell did that thought come from? But his kisses quickly distracted me as he bit down on my neck. A moan escaped my lips and lifted unto the counter. I could feel the smile on his lips at what he just archived. Then his ringtone went off but he didn't stop. The call came again but longer this time.

"Shouldn't you get that?" I asked in-between kisses. "It could be important."

"I don't care." he murmured against my cheek. But his phone kept on ringing and it became bothersome.

"Chris.... Baby..." I breath out placing my hand on his shoulder and creating some space between us. "You should really take the call." I insisted and he sighed. "The person has been persisting for long." Then the call stopped.

"See the universe doesn't even want me to pick the call. So c'mon..." He said pulling me closer. His eyes literally devouring me as he locked his lips with mine. "Let's return to our..."

The doorbell and a simultaneous rough knock on the door came next. Effectively spoiling his mood.

"Oh, dang it..." He groaned. "What is it again can't we have any privacy and enjoy a moment in peace." He grumbled as he stumped to the door. I giggled at his grouchiness. But the voice I heard totally wiped the smile of my face.

"... The flight was awfully long I feel my feet are swollen from it." She complained.

"Sorry to hear that mom. Do you need a foot massage or should I take you to the spa?" He offered and I rolled my eyes at her antics. She's ready to do anything to keep his attention only on her. Here age happens, but doesn't need to be so dramatic about a simple flight. I bet her feet are doing just fine.

I heard their voices come closer, indicating they were in the living room. So moved out to receive her before I'm labeled as the indifferent daughter in-law who doesn't care about her fake pains...

"Hey mom." I greeted with an extra sweet smile as I met them in the living room. Her eyes flashed with a sour look before she gave me a fake smile.

"Hey Aisha."she replied as we went in for a brief hug. And thank God it was brief.. God knows she could do to me if it were long. Probably stab me so I won't marry her son.

"So glad to see you. How have you been?" I  said.

"I've been holding myself as good as an old woman can."  She replied and we have a fake giggle.

"Whatever it is you're doing seems to be working wonders on you." I complimented.

"Yea, beauty runs in our genes. Take a look at my dashing son." I smile. “who could resist such a cute face?"

"Oh, c'mon mom."

"It's true. Speaking of aging, when will I be able to get the merry squeals of playing kids?"

"Oh ah..." I stuttered and looked up to Chris with pleading eyes asking for help.

"Well mom. We'll get to it once she's ready." He replied.

I gave him a death stare. How could he throw me under bus like that? He's literally thrown all the blame on me.

"Does that mean you don't intend having kids?"

I laughed to lighten the mood. "Oh no mom. Of course I do. I'm just not ready for them now. It's a lot of responsibility plus with we're still in the settling in."
"Nonsense, you'll do fine. Christian is going to be an exceptional father just like his dad was. Not being ready is when you're still 20 or 23. Not at 27." She replied, her tone sour.

The tension was so tangible you could slice through it. And as usual he won't say anything to defend me.

"Ehm mom. Come let me show you to your room I'm sure you must be exhausted." Christian tried to ease the tension and I looked aside.

So he could talk now? I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.

"Oh yes baby. Let's go so I get some rest before lunch." She replied with a bright smile.

"Let's go." He ushered her into the hallway. I blinked flustered and collapsed into the sofa.

I was on my phone when he returned about  30minutes later and tried holding my hands.

"Don't touch me." I spat annoyed. He can claim he loves me all he wants but when it comes to his mom, I'm quickly set aside like some toy.

"Oh baby don't be like that."

"Don't baby me. I'm sick of this. Sick of you treating me like toy everytime she's around. You're always on her side even when what she does is wrong."

"It's not that baby c'mon..."

"Really? What was that when we stood here 30 minutes back?"

He bit his lip nervously. "I'm sorry. I was nervous. I didn't think it through, I just throw you under bus like that and it wasn't cool."

"No it wasn't. And for her to be so rude... I know she doesn't like me but why insinuate I'm not going to be a good parent or that I'm incompetent because I want to hold out on having kids?"

"She didn't mean it that way. You know how parents can pressure you into the kids stuff so much..."

He's doing it again.

"You know what forget it. This is of no use. I'm going to set the table for lunch."
"Baby c'mon..." He urged but I was out to the kitchen. But apparently, he followed me because I felt him still reach out to my hands. "I'm sorry.” he whispered into my ear from behind me but I didn't move nor talked. "Please, please, I'm sorry, please forgive me, hmm." He said placing tender kisses along my neck and jawline while he rubbed soothing circles on my shoulder.

"Ok." I said weakly.

I felt him smile against my pulse. "I love you." He said wrapping his arms around me.

I know he did love me. A lot even. If not, he wouldn't have been with me now despite all that happened in the past. And he's more committed into making this perfect. And I did love him too even though it does happen for me to think about Michael once in a while but I was ready to give in as much as I can to him.

"I love you." I whispered back as I held his arms around me.
