"I love you."

----

Those were the last words I heard before my mother left and died in the battlefield. For a young boy, I could not accept the fact that I won't be able to see my mother again tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or anytime in the future. I lost her laughter and her smile, something Kaeya would never understand since he did not know my mother well enough.

What made me angry more was the fact that my father married another woman not long after mother's passing. This woman had a cold look on her, unlike mother's warm ones.

"This is your new mother. She will give you the same amount of love like your mother used to when she's alive."

Yeah right. I did not believe she will. Her eyes were ice cold. This woman did not smile even once.

For the couple of weeks, I watched her. Kaeya was so easy falling for her trap. He would eat her meals, spending time with her, disregarding the fact that this woman stole mother's life.

"Diluc, are you not eating ?"

She once asked me. I gave her a cold look, not liking her act one bit.

"No."

I asked my nanny to cook for me instead. Her duty as my nanny was long finished once I was able to care for myself, but now she was the only place I felt safe and secured.

After witnessing my father hugging this new woman, I felt like I could not trust him either. I thought he loved mother. If he did, then he won't have marry this woman.

Though one day, father had to be away for some work, leaving me and Kaeya alone with her. She would read books on the chair by a window on her free time.

"Diluc, I think it's about time you start talking to her."

Kaeya told me, and I immediately sensed anger growing in me.

"Talking to her ? She took mother's place ! Mother will never come back as long as she's here !" Kaeya surprised hearing Diluc's words but I ran away before he could stop me. I finally said it out loud and it hurts my heart a lot more.

I cried behind the wine's storage shed. I missed mother so much. She would come here and hug me once she learned I was crying. Now, I had no one doing that anymore.

"Diluc ?"

My eyes widened hearing the woman's voice, and I looked up to her peeking over the shed at me. Her face remained cool, as if she was mocking at the sight of my crying.
