[Ace's Point of View - Childhood Flashback]
...
"Hey, Ace."
"Yes, Ame?" I replied, glancing at her.
"Will Mom and Dad ever return? It's been forever!" she frowned.
Amelia and I were peacefully sitting on a bench at the park, in Ruben. The trees in the locality towered tall above us, shading our small, frail bodies from the glazing, shining sun. A variety of different flowers began to bloom, with the long blades of grass on the ground. There was a gigantic playground in front of us, with a new red slide, swings, climbing bars, and more! The breeze swept Ame's twin-braids to and fro, it was almost hypnotizing.
I pondered a bit, this wasn't an easy question to answer. "I'm not sure. But, I believe that they'll come home someday to play with us. Don't frown! I don't like it when you do..." I smiled, hoping to cheer her up.
All that did was make her cry. Her bright, purple eyes. I didn't want to see tears emitting from them.
"A-Ame? Wah! I'm sorry, what did I do this time?" I felt guilty. Really guilty.
She quickly wiped the tears from her eyes. Ame's voice was already beginning to sound slightly hoarse. "I-It's nothing, Ace. I just want to know... why they left."
Amelia was usually really... um, strong? I was always the crybaby, no matter what. She always laughed at me, too. But, something inside me told me that I shouldn't laugh at Ame. Because that would be mean, and I didn't want to be a bully.
"Oh." I could only say that, and nothing more.
"It's getting l-lonely, you know. Everyone is supposed to have parents, right? Th-They're supposed to c-care for us, and stuff like that."
"I guess."
"Well, whatever...! I don't care about stupid Mom and Dad! I don't, starting now! I'll never cry ever again. That's your thing!"
"Um... cheer up, Ame. I have a present for you."
She curiously leaned closer to me. "A present? Wh-What is it?"
I rummaged through my pockets, pulling out two silver, metal wristbands. One had "ACE" engraved on it, and the other had "AMELIA". I wanted to give it to her for some time now. I handed the one with Ame's name on it to her.
"Whoa! This is s-so pretty... Where did you get this, Brother?"
I shrugged, scratching the back of my head with my free hand. "Magic?"
"You're a good magician, then! Be proud. I think I'm all better now."
"Put it on. I'll wear mine, too." I slipped on the bracelet on my left hand.
She nodded, and did the same. "I'll keep this forever!"
I was happy to hear that. "Okay! Same."
"Family forever?" she stared at me intently.
"Mhm! Family forever. I'll never leave you!"
Amelia held her pinky finger out to me. "Promise?"
Our pinkies entwined. "Promise."
On that day, I realized that Amelia was someone I had to protect more than anyone else. She was someone I had to value above all. We were in this together, so it was only right.
Within my heart, I yearned for our parents' arrival, so we could all be a big, happy family. The day that happened, Ame and I could finally create the familial bonds with them we never had before.
"Let's go have fun!" she proposed.
"Yeah!"
Amelia dragged me along with her to the playground.
