[Amelia's Point of View - Present Day]

...

I never really knew nor understood much about myself. That's the way it has always been. "Amelia Haan" was simply a name. Not remembering that much from childhood, it could've been something entirely different, and I just wouldn't have been aware.

Who were my parents? I no longer recalled their appearances, not even their disposition and how they acted. Were they with Ace and I, during the beginning of everything? Why'd they leave? What was their purpose? No, this wasn't the time for random philosophies. I promised myself way back then, at the park in Ruben, that I wouldn't give a damn about my parents. That I wouldn't cry anymore. So, of course I had to abide by those rules. Of all the things that I could've recollected about my childhood, it was the promise I made, and almost nothing else. I considered myself to be an odd human being.

The only family I had was Ace. In a sense, he was important to me. He was valuable and precious. Obediently, he followed all the commands I had given him, throughout all these years. Ace willingly covered up for all of the mischievous pranks I've conducted for as long as I could remember, taking the blame instead. My own little puppet, you could say. People like him were extremely rare.

Every single day, it was the same routine over and over again. Wake up, freshen, eat food provided by Ann, who was a kind and well-known merchant, and laze around until one of the Red Knights came to fetch Ace and me to work. Since we had no guardians to pay bills and such, we had to do it ourselves. Our home was free of charge when we were younger, but now, we were close enough to a suitable age to earn things. Ruben was boring.

A several minute walk away from the Haan residence stood the Training Camp for Young Adventurers. The name was pretty self-explanatory. Instructors would train adolescent teens until they were ready for battle outside. Since I was an employee of some sort, all I did was clean around the area, like a maid. I didn't have access to the so-called "training" they provided, and neither did Ace. Not like I was interested, anyway. The real fun came from pranks, after all!

...

"Ameee. Ameliaaa? Ameee."

I blinked, shaking my head. "Huh?"

I glanced around, then soon remembered that I was within the camp. Trees, trees, and more trees.

It was Ace. "I've been calling your name for the past ten minutes or so... Well, I'm glad that you're done spacing out. And I'm glad that you're okay!" he smiled.

"You could've slapped me or something." I rolled my eyes.

"Eh? But that's mean, you know. It's not right to hit people, especially girls." he protested.

"Right, right. You're too nice for your own good. It's rare to see people like you." I sighed.

"It is?"

"Yeah."

"You weren't planning anything while you were in thought, right?" Ace nervously asked. I could see the worry in his eyes.

"No, no. Not yet, at least. Relax, I won't have you do anything for me until later on."

"Oh, great! Because there's something I want to show you, back at our house. We're done with our jobs for today, right?"

I nodded. "Probably."

"Let's sign out, then." Ace led me to the main office.

...

After we wrote our names on the sign-out sheet, we left the vicinity. I greeted all of the adults and students passing by with a bright smile, and a "Good afternoon". I had to keep up my facade to the public; Ace was the only person who knew my true nature.

"So, what do you have planned?" I inquired on the way home.

"You'll see."

...
