The shadow entities kept spawning over and over, one after another, each time we brutally murdered them. Add, being the strongest in the Ara Search Party, was able to defeat them without problem, however, their reproduction rate was still far too much for even someone like him to handle, making it a tedious task to complete.
"Damn! These individuals won't stop! This is an endless cycle!" Father scowled angrily. "There isn't an option to escape by flying, either. I detect some strong barrier surrounding us and them, and if we take any time to attempt breaking said barrier, it'd be too late."
I nodded, spinning forward with my spear, slashing all of the shadows within my reach, and ending it with several kicks, imbued with phantom claws.
Add waved a hand in front of him horizontally. He blinked, then did it again. And again. And again. "This is the worst possible time...!" he growled. "Tch! So my cracks of time and space have decided to cease functioning now, in this dire situation?! Luto! You'll pay for this!" Afterwards, he simply rushed forward on his technologically-advanced dynamos.
Deciding not to question who "Luto" was, I kept attacking, although I was starting to get tired. I took a three second rest before continuing, any more than that would've most likely been at the cost of my life. Phew.
I glanced over at Ace for a split moment. He seemed exhausted, I suppose our current states were mutual. I was hoping that he'd manage.
As I was refocusing on my target, I heard a shriek right after my attention was diverted from my brother. Immediately, I turned to the direction of where the scream came from. It was Ace! He was flat on the floor, either the monsters were too overwhelming due to his fatigue, or he merely tripped and fell. I was betting on a mixture of both, but if I had to choose one, then I'd say the second statement.
"ACE!" I shouted, killing off the current batch and running over to him promptly, I didn't care if the revived shadows came after me! (Okay, perhaps I did.) Ace was family, and I had to prioritize his safety. He'd do the same for me.
Instead of hurting him, the silhouettes swiftly grabbed him by the collar before I could arrive. He struggled to break free, but failed. With a poof, they all disappeared, every last one of them, with Ace taken as hostage.
I yelled his name once more in vain. Soon after, tears were already forming, staining the dry, rocky desert grounds with drips and drops of water.
Add grimaced as he stood in front, gently wrapping his arms around me and patting the top of my head. "Crap. Don't cry, Amelia." he mumbled. "It's my fault for not paying enough heed to the two of you. We'll find him. I'm terrible with sh**ty encouragements like this, so bear with me, and just stop with your river of tears. Okay? Good, because you better listen to me, kid."
"I have a speculation that the silhouettes may have taken Ace to a place identical to where Ara and Eun are." Ji announced, revealing herself.
"And the reasons to back up your statements are?" Add rolled his eyes.
The fox responded with a sly smile. "A woman's intuition is never wrong."
"Right, right." he scoffed.
Ace. I mentally prayed for his well-being.
