...
I started to interrogate Ji, while Ace remained in shock and awe. This was nonsense! It was hard to believe everything the fox had elucidated, but at the same time, it seemed to be the truth.
"How are you aware of these details regarding 'Eun', and my mother?" I asked.
"Eun and I are close relatives." she answered.
"Why must you choose me to become your 'host'?"
"Like I mentioned before, you are worthy."
"How so?"
"The potential energy stored deep within your body cannot be awakened without my help. You desire power, don't you? Power, to be at the top of everyone else. Power, to become the ultimate conqueror. Power, to unleash that arrogance of yours, bossing people around 24/7. Although I don't exactly approve of what you want, I am willing to form a contract with you, because I know that you'll change in due time."
I pondered for a moment. I did want competence, no doubt. But, could Ji be trusted? How would my brother feel?
"W-Wait! I'm scared! I'm worried!" Ace cried. "What if something bad happens to her?!"
I sighed. He was a worrywart and scaredy-cat, as usual.
"It'll be fine, young boy. I promise, and I swear on my soul." said Ji, without a split second of hesitation.
I glanced at Ji, then at Ace, then at Ji again. "Very well. I'll accept."
The worrywart fell dead silent, but he nodded.
Promptly, a bright aura surrounded me, then disappeared several seconds later. I could already feel fresh capabilities being awakened.
Four small purple marks shaped like straight lines were etched onto Ji's cheeks, two on each side.
The fox grinned. "The contract is complete. Now, may you two please introduce yourselves? Where are your manners?"
"Amelia Haan." I smiled back.
"A-Ah! I'm sorry! I-I'm Ace Haan."
Ji crawled out of the dusty package, and handed me a long spear. That must have been the object I was curious about earlier.
"Oh, thanks." I truly appreciated her gift, I always had a secret love for weapons! This harpoon would do just fine.
"Don't mention it."
...
After we got accustomed to each other, I began asking Ace about how he knew our mother's name. He explained to me that there was apparently a legal document stored somewhere up in this loft, he had found it in the crate Ji was in, and that's what he longed to show me. This outcome was much better, however. Mom's name was Ara, while Dad's name was Add, according to Ace. Ara, Add, Ace, and Ame. The three-letter-A family. Ji claimed to have no idea where the paper went, but Ace said it was okay.
"I've heard that you two were planning on going on a trip, to search for your parents." Ji smirked. "I shall help with that, since I am aware of where Eun currently is. I can sense her aura. Chances are, Eun will be where Ara is, and Ara will be where Add is."
"Great!" Ace applauded happily. "Thank you, Ji!"
"But, there are a few problems. Ace, you still haven't responded to my inquiries. How will you acquire ED to fund for necessities, such as food and housing? How will you deal with the Red Knights, and our current occupation?" I stared at him.
"U-Um..." he stuttered.
"Your issues will be handled. Whenever needed, I'll materialize the ED to fund. I am quite wealthy. As for the so-called 'Red Knights', you can simply tell them about your journey, no?"
"Wouldn't they grow suspicious?" I countered.
"There's nothing wrong with setting out to venture, on a quest to find precious family." Ji replied.
"P-Please, Ame!" Ace bowed down in front of me, his hands making direct contact with the contaminated floor.
"Hmph. If you're doing all this just for my approval, I suppose I have no choice but to oblige." I rolled my eyes.
"Thank you, Amelia!" he beamed.
Even though I was dragged into this situation, this trip was actually beginning to sound... interesting.
