Chapter Nine : Test of Inner Self

Carolyn was fuming. Alpha had brought her back, as he had promised. However unrest was settling through out the teams.
And the Gods decided they needed to do something about it.

Alka was sitting outside Rose's room when Mardin walked out.
"Mardin?" Alka scrambled up and Mardin nodded at him.
"I'm getting the priest." Mardin said quietly, and Alka stumbled.
"What? Why?!" Mardin was silent.
"There's a reason she was wearing a long jacket Alka. She needs help." And with that Mardin left. Alka turned towards the door and Arson exited the room.
"Arson?" Arson turned and sighed before sliding down the wall next to Alka.
"Yeah. She's fine. Just needs some help." Alka was silent for a second. His eyes were invisible, but Arson could feel his stares.
"Just what did I miss today?" Arson sighed.
"You'd have to ask Rose." A sad chuckle escaped Alka's lips.
"If she'd talk to me." Arson laughed and patted him on the shoulder.
"That's your problem. Good luck with it though." They turned to see Mardin leading Dec and Ryley into the hall. "I do believe however that our time camping in front of her door is up." Dec walked up to the door and smiled at them. Ryley poked his head out from behind Dec before peering at the door curiously. The gold and red letters decorating the dark wood stood out in beautiful cursive.
ROSE.
Dec sighed before opening the door and stepping inside, Ryley trailing in behind him.
The door shut behind them with a quiet thud; leaving the pair staring at the door.

Rose was curled into a ball on her bed; her silent tears slightly shaking her body. Dec walked over to her and Ryley glanced around the room. Plush red carpet and red walls, with black accents everywhere. Photos lined an entire wall; however the person that was in most of them seemed almost unrecognizable to the one that was curled next to them. Walking over to the large bed, Rose looked so tiny in comparison to everything else in her room. A jacket was loose on her and unzipped; however she clutched it tight to her.
"Rose, we're here to help you." Dec said, his voice talking quietly as though to a frightened animal. Rose was silent. Ryley slowly walked over and sat down next to her; almost hesitantly.
"Don't cry." He murmured quietly, slowly petting her hair. She relaxed at his touch; and he looked up at Dec and nodded. Slowly moving forwards Dec grasped her jacket and tugged. Hesitantly she shrugged it off and they looked in horror at what was before them.
Jagged cuts lined her body; many with broken threads dangling from them. Blood was flowing out of some of them; others had the blood all congealed and others had harden. Bruises lined her entire body.
However a hand print was clearly visible against her pale neck.
With one glance the pair could easily tell what happened.
Rose's clothes were bloody, and with Ryley's help they managed to convince Rose to change.
"We can easily heal you." Dec said before all three of their communicators vibrated.

Don't. She needs to learn. The old fashioned way.

Dec stared sadly down at it before looking up at Rose.
"We better begin then."
And soon enough Ryley was grasping Rose's hand as she bit into a strip of leather; screaming and tears of blood trailing down from underneath her mask.
Dec's heart broke each time he threaded the needle.

Omega was sitting in his throne; quietly observing each of his followers. When his eyes landed on Rose his jaw clenched. He shot up and walked over to a portal before stepping through, and arriving in front of Alpha. The god turned rapidly over the the masked one.
"Omega. What do you want." A grin was displayed on Omega's face as he waltzed towards his older brother.
"Oh, I just want to test one of my followers." Alpha's eyes narrowed at Omega.
"Why are you asking me." Omega pouted and shoved his hands in his jacket pockets before starting to pace.
"Because it may or may not include your followers." Alpha's eyes were slits.
"Brother. Just what are you planning." Omega shrugged and his grin reappeared.
"Oh nothing. But you'll see brother dearest." Omega waved his hand and an screen with Rose appeared. She curled into a ball, Dec washing the tools up after stitching everything and Ryley quietly trying to make her feel better. Alpha's eyes were wide as he stared at the screen.
"Just what has my follower done to yours?" Omega scoffed.
"I'll correct you on this one. All of your followers for something mine didn't do." Alpha walked quickly to the screen and looked at Rose.
"You need to heal her-"
"No." Omega had a cruel smile on his face and a shiver of fear went down Alpha's spine. "As I said. I need to test one of my followers." He waved away the screen and strode towards the portal. "You're more than welcome to join brother dearest." As he started to walk in a dark laugh crept out of him. "It'll be very interesting." Omega left Alpha alone in his throne room. He paced nervously before creating a screen of his own and rewinded the images of Carolyn.
What he was left with he didn't like.

Ryley was murmuring soft words to Rose, petting her hair and wiping away the blood tears. Each time more came out he wondered how it was even possible. At one point he held them up to Dec, who just shook his head sadly before continuing to try to clean up. With sad eyes Ryley turned back to Rose. She was broken, her hands every once and a while going up to touch her neck before more tears rushed down. Dec finally walked towards the door.
"Ryley. Time to go." Ryley gave a long look over at Rose and Dec sighed. "Five minutes." Ryley nodded before turning back to her as the door shut. Rose turned hesitantly towards him.
"It's okay." He said, his voice still soft and kind. "It'll be okay." She relaxed but more tears fell down. He slowly shifted her before pulling the covers out and over her; tucking the sheets around her small frame. She was still before relaxing, her hands appearing at the top of the sheets and pulling them up to her chin. Ryley pulled down the cloth covering his mouth and a small smile appeared. Rose's eyes were trained on him, and a small smile appeared on her own lips before a blood tear appeared again. Ryley walked over and kissed her cheek where the tear was and pulled the blanket over her more.
"It's okay" he repeated, and Rose nodded slowly. He pulled the cloth back over face and Rose could see from his eyes he was smiling. As Ryley walked to the door he heard a noise. He turned and saw Rose sitting up slightly.
"Thank you." A quiet voice said, and his heart broke. He nodded and turned before she could see the tears trailing down from his eyes.
She was broken. And that was the only thing Dec and Ryley didn't know how to fix.

Rose sat there for a second her mind playing through the events before she felt herself start to doze off. Fitful dreams of torture and screams, along with a mask. Rose woke up suddenly and Arson was sitting next to her.
"Woah, it's okay. Calm down." Rose looked around before leaning back onto her pillows.
"Arson what are you doing here?" He chuckled before fiddling with his mask. Rose's eyes narrowed from beneath her mask. "What's happening Arson." He sighed and looked away from her.
"Omega has called for us all to go into the arena." He was quiet for a second. "And to bring our weapons." Rose was silent. "I'm sorry Rose."
She sighed before getting up. Stitches lined her body and the bruise on her neck was prominent. She walked over to one of her mirrors and stretched, testing the stitches. They held fast but she winced as she did so. She looked around for her jacket and grabbed it. Arson was leaning against the headboard of her bed and looking at her.
"What?"
"Rose, I don't think you're ready for fighting." She chuckled darkly.
"You think I don't know? This isn't just going to be fighting Arson." She shrugged on the jacket and looked in the mirror. "It's a test for me."
