The next evening, Monty, Violet, Klaus, Sunny, Rowan, and Count Olaf got in Monty's jeep to drive to the movies. The children were all wearing new clothes that they had chosen themselves at the store the previous day.
Violet was wearing a white blouse with a blue skirt and a red scarf. She had her hair ribbon in her breast pocket.
Klaus was wearing a light blue coloured shirt with a dark blue jumper and a brown jacket.
Sunny was wearing a dark pink dress with a yellow coat. She had her short hair tied up with a yellow ribbon to make a sort of thin bun.
Rowan was wearing a white shirt with a red tie and a black jumper.
Monty was wearing different clothes, although they weren't new. Count Olaf was still wearing his lab clothes, which looked slightly awkward for the movies.
When they arrived, Count Olaf insisted that he would buy them popcorn, which made Monty and the children suspicious. Whilst Olaf did that, the children went and took seats in the fourth row from the front on the right side (if you were standing in front of the screen) right in the middle. Monty took the seat D7, Violet took D8, Sunny took D9, Klaus took D10, and Rowan took D11.
"I'll have Stephano sit next to me, children." Monty reassured. "I wonder where he is, he's taking a long time."
As if on cue, Count Olaf came out with two boxes of popcorn - a small one and a big one. He kept checking everyone's seat before he finally found the Baudelaires, Monty, and Rowan.
"This one is for you five." Count Olaf said, passing Monty the small box.
"Thank you, Stephano." Monty said, giving the children a look that said, 'he's crazy'. "Your er, generosity is noted."
All of a sudden, eerie music started playing and the first scene came on the big screen. It had Zombies in the Snow written in white letters. It also had, in small yellow font:
Directed by Gustav Sebald
Subtitles provided by Jacquelyn Sciezka
2264
"Why are there subtitles if this is an English film?" whispered Klaus.
Monty turned to Klaus, a twinkle in his eye. "All the best films have subtitles."
"Gustav Sebald? Is that your old assistant?" asked Violet.
Monty nodded.
The film had an interesting plot, but very bad special effects, including a ceramic deer that was pulled along with a string.
When the film had finished, the children, Monty, and Count Olaf walked out of the movies and got in Monty's jeep.
"Oh, Stephano!" exclaimed Monty. "I have just remembered that I need a new pack of food for the Three-Eyed Python." He winked at the children. "Would you mind getting it for me?"
"No." Count Olaf stated. "I mean, yes, I would mind. I am, uh, allergic to the Four-Eyed Hyphen."
Violet looked at Klaus and Klaus looked at Violet.
"That's not even what he said," said Rowan.
"Then I am allergic to whatever he just said." said Count Olaf.
"Oh, well," sighed Monty. "I do have two packets of food for the Three-Eyed Python, which should be enough to last a week."
"No, no, get your food," Count Olaf insisted. "I will stay here with the orphans."
"Oh, no, that's fine." Monty said.
He turned to face the four children in the back seat, and mouthed, we'll think of something.
When they arrived back at Monty's home, Monty realised how late it was (almost eleven in the evening) and hastily told the children to get ready and go to bed. Then, he said goodnight to them all and reminded them that tomorrow, they would be going to Peru.
But the children, happy and giddy, didn't even stop to wonder whether they would really be going to Peru at all.
