"That wasn't good." said Rowan, slamming the door of Aunt Josephine's house.
"I know." agreed Violet, nodding. "The hurricane is obviously here now."
Klaus turned to his two sisters. "You band Sunny take ba bath for your hives. Rowan band bi will look bat the note." His voice had almost returned to normal.
"Sounds good." Violet said, scratching her cheek.
Klaus and Rowan looked at the note.
"I already have a theory." Klaus said.
"Show me." Rowan said.
Klaus pulled out a pencil and changed the grammatical errors to capital letters so that they were more noticeable. Soon, the note looked like this:
Violet, Klaus, and Sunny,
By the time you read this note, my life will be at its end. My heart is as cold as IKe, and I find my life Inbearable. I know youR children may not understand the sad life of a dowaDger, or what would have leadLED me to this desperate aKt, but please know that I am much happier this way. As my last will and testament, I leave you in the care of Captain Sham, a kind and honourable mEn. Please think of me kindly even though I'D done this terrible thing.
Your Aunt Josephine
Klaus showed his thoughts to Rowan, who grinned in delight.
"Hello. Any work done yet?" asked Violet.
"Yes, so you know the grammatical errors?" checked Klaus.
Violet groaned. "We know it's not forgery, Klaus! I wish you'd stop going on about the grammatical errors."
"But it means something, Violet!" insisted Klaus. "Look, where it says 'inbearable', it should say, 'unbearable' with a 'U'."
"You're being unbearable, with a U!" shouted Violet.
Klaus flared up. "And you're being stupid, with an S!"
"Pewa!" said Sunny sadly.
"You're right, Sunny," sighed Violet. "We won't fight. But I wish you would stop going on about the errors!" she said the last part to Klaus.
"Listen to Klaus." Rowan said. "It's really smart."
Klaus began. "The 'K' in Ike should be a 'C'. The 'I' in inbearable should be a 'U'. The 'R' in your shouldn't be there at all. The 'D' in dowadger also shouldn't be there. The 'led' in leadled is another one that shouldn't be there. The 'K' in akt should be a 'C'. The 'E' in men should be an 'A'. And finally, the 'D' in I'd should be a 've'."
"Yes?" said Violet, obviously confused.
"Well, that spells C-U-R-D-L-E-D-C-A-V-E." Klaus said.
"Curdled Cave!" exclaimed Violet.
"Where is Curdled Cave?" asked Rowan.
Klaus smiled and pulled a book off of the library shelf.
"This is the one book in the library that is not about grammar." he said, holding up a book. It was thick, with a dark blue cover and a gold title reading, 'A LACHRYMOSE ATLAS'.
"We need to be quick." urged Violet as Klaus flipped to the Index.
"Cave, Curdled, page 104." he read, before flipping to the said page number. "There's a map."
"I could sail there." suggested Violet.
Klaus looked outside and swallowed. "That might be our only choice."
Suddenly, they heard a crash. Klaus stepped forwards in alarm, and the children yelled as the piece of the library he had just been standing on crumbled into the sea.
"Hurry!" shouted Violet.
Klaus picked up Sunny and made it out of the library safely, but Rowan began to slide on the now-wet floor. He was moving towards the gap in the window. Violet ran forward and grabbed his hand, managing to pull him out of the library just as it fell into the sea.
"Get out of the house!" cried Klaus.
Luckily, the orphans managed to get out of the house, barely able to shut the door behind them before it fell into the lake.
"We need to go!" shouted Rowan, his voice barely being heard over the blowing of the wind, pounding of the rain, and splashing of the lake.
"Okay!" yelled back Violet. "But I'm going to need to steal one of Count Olaf's sailboats!"
A/N: The next chapter will probably be shortened down a bit as I would like to go onto The Miserable Mill section soon. <3
