(A/n: there's a lot of time jumps in the beginning but it plays out after I swear)

It's only been a few weeks since the party. From what I've heard around school Maria isn't planning on leaving any time soon, and honestly I don't care. Classes started up again, I set the green light on Maria, and I had Marcus...sorta. As the time went on me and Marcus started meeting up more often, usually at night when no one was up or some place no one went. It wasn't always sexual a lot of the time we laid in my bed, music humming in the background and we talked, about whatever.

I say sorta because he was still with Maria. During the day Marcus and Maria were the couple with problems, kinda like her and my brother, the couple that no one liked being alone with because 90% of the time they were fighting; and when they weren't fighting Maria was trying to get into his pants. At night though, Marcus was mine, just like before everything that happened we would lay in my bed or be on the roof, talking about how he was ready to break up with her and be with me again and everything was great...until they weren't.

A lot of the time, when Marcus was with me, he was with me but, some times all he could talk about was what was going on with Maria. Obviously I don't want to hear about her, which led to fights and he went back to her until their next fight and he was back to me for the continuing cycle. That was, until recently when I decide I didn't want to be some third person in the picture.

"Im not doing this anymore" I said as we stood in the middle of my room one night when he came in after his daily fight with Maria "what?" he questioned "i'm not doing this anymore. Either go deal with her or you can come with me but, you don't get both." he scoffed running his hands over his face "Ona, you can't be serious right now?" I shrugged "I am. me or her, pick" he shook his head in disbelief "Ona, I'm not" before he could finish I stopped him "no you need to. pick. me or her? Do you want to have to keep dealing with her? Or do you want me?" He looked around, his hands on his head but he didn't say anything so I nodded opening the door for him "I guess you chose"

Another week went by, me and Marcus didn't really talk. Mostly when we hangout with the group and made very small talk. He and Maria were very clearly fighting more but they were still together. I tried to stay to myself mostly, I was just ever so slightly scared if I saw them together for to long id need something stronger then weed to calm me down. It was a Wednesday after school, I was sitting in my room doing Lins first assignment when my door was knocked on. I yelled for the person to come in and kind of sheepishly walked in Santiago. I froze

He slowly closed the door behind him but didn't come over to sit down. I pushed my books to the side "What are... what are you doing here?" I asked "Lin asked me to come back" he started, his eyes glued to the floor "But I'm here to...apologize" he finally looked up "I should've never told you to do snow like that...it was stupid" he added "Did our dads put you up to this?" I questioned. he shook his head "No, all me" there was a moment of silence before I shrugged "Its fine... I shouldn't have listened to you...when do you ever have good ideas"

He looked up and smiled a little "true" he said. I opened my arms as I rolled my eyes with a small laugh; he came over and gave me a hug. Over the next week or so, me and Santiago reconnected, he also got clean while he was gone so he was a lot more enjoyable to be around. It felt good to be around someone who knew the struggle of getting clean, nothing felt complicated, we were just friends again; but of course because I am Ona Salazar, I didn't get to have a regular friendship. Billy had let it "accidentally" slip that Marcus was jealous me and Santiago were close again and of course, Maria didn't like that.

On this particular day, I woke up annoyed so, when Santiago bursted through my door during my free period, it royally pissed me off. He was being extra loud and extra childish, but most of all he'd start sentences then go "oh wait-never mind" by the fifth time he'd done this I was just about ready to punch him "Santiago just fucking say it already!" he jerked back  "haven't you heard?" he said sitting up "heard what?" I asked starting to rub my temple hoping it'd help with the fat headache I had. "Maria, she's been saying the twins aren't Chicos and" I rolled my eyes "and who cares. We know they're Chicos, they look like him and Rosa was only with him" I cut off
