Everything has changed

Chapter 4

I texted Sebastian to meet me by the P.E. hall. After talking to Nina, Scarlette, and Troy I had to take a walk to process what they told me.

Not many people choose to take my side during an argument. Most people enjoy watching it from the sidelines cheering on the most popular person in the fight. In this case, that is me.

I am not the one to be bothered about being popular. My philosophy is if you're nice to me I'll be nice to you. That can't be said for most people in my year group. Everyone just wants to belong and I understand that but being popular is not all it's cut out to be. People expect something from you, from the way you dress to who your friends are. I could care less about what people think. If they don't like me let that be that. I am perfect just the way I am. No one can tell me otherwise.

I didn't want this to happen though. I didn't want people to pick sides. All I want is to talk to my best friend and see how she is doing.

I don't like it when Charlotte gets into trouble. She can be a good girl but she has to work on her temper. Maybe I should have gone after her, to calm her down and try to get her to go back to class. We could have been on our way to the cafe in town instead of me waiting at the P.E hall all by myself looking like an idiot.

Most of the schools have finished so a whole group of kids are charging to the student exit to go home. I see a couple of people I know and wave. They wave back giving me a small smile as they walk on.

I wonder if what happened in class has gotten around the school. Who am I kidding of course it has. Gossip around here spreads like wildfire. Nothing can be kept a secret and that only confirmed my suspicion when I saw Sebastian coming towards me with worry in his eye.

I wonder what he has heard

"Are you okay?" He asked stepping away from the crowd "I heard you and Charlotte had a fight in class"

Of course, the information about what happened in class has got mixed up. I wonder if this has gotten back to Charlotte

"Yes I'm fine but there was no fight between Charlotte and me just a shouting match between Oliver and Charlotte"

"Billy told me as soon as I got out of class," Sebastian told me "I didn't think it was the truth but at the time that's all I had to go on. Anyway, what happened between them I have told her a million times to ignore whatever Oliver says. Why won't she listen?"

"Because she thinks she knows she's right," I said as we started walking to the bridge "He was just egging her on, and like the fool she is she let him. I tried to calm her down but there was no use. She wouldn't see sense so I gave up"

"You just do too much for her Lauren. Went will you stop putting everything on hold for her?" Sebastian asked

He does have a point. I try too hard to make people happy that I never think about myself. In the autumn I won't be there for Charlotte and that scares me. The teachers say that colleges are more strict when it comes to walking out of class. What happens if Charlotte does that? She won't be able to come to me. We both are doing different courses and I don't know if I will be there on the same day she is. All I can do is pray she is not like this in college. Charlotte has so much potential even if she can't see that herself
