All Charlotte wanted was a complete family. She envied me with my two loving parents still being together.
Charlotte's parents got divorced back when we were in year eight just around the time Nina and I started hanging out. She became distant from Sebastian and me. If we ever asked her what was wrong Charlotte would walk away. It wasn't like her at all
The way I found out was by accident. Sebastian and I were on our way to meet Nina in the park when we passed Charlotte's house. At first, I thought they were moving. Then I saw Charlotte's dad with his suitcase and a crying Charlotte running behind him.
"Please Dad don't go please"
"I'm sorry Charlotte I have to" he patted Charlotte on her head and got in the car "I will see you next weekend, I promise"
As soon as the car went Sebastian and I ran to Charlotte. She tried to resist us but fell to the floor in tears. We stayed with her all afternoon trying to take her mind off things. I didn't understand what she was going through but tried the best I could to be there for her
When I told Mum and Dad they offered Charlotte to come over whenever she wanted. She loved that. She loved having them to go to, it was also around that time she started calling them mum and dad. How can I take that away from her?
It doesn't feel right to take away her safe space no matter how much she has hurt me. We will always be her family. This will always be her home
