Why Can't I Hate You?

Sonic Prime Universe,
End of Season 1.

Sonic groaned as he was suddenly slammed into a large purple crystal.

What the heck had just happened?

The last thing he remembered was running down the streets of New Yoke City, hearing Shadow calling out to him, and then bam!

He found himself with a major headache.

'Ugh... What just hit me?' He wondered, slowly opening his eyes to look around, and try to get a feel for his surroundings.

And the first thing he became aware of was that he was floating somewhere as if he were in space. The second, was that he wasn't alone.

There was the familiar outline of another hedgehog some yards ahead of him, and as his vision began to clear, Sonic realized with a jolt, that it was none other than Shadow.

Or at least, he thought it was.

With all of the worlds he had visited up until this point, and all of the other versions of his friends that he'd met, Sonic honestly couldn't tell if this really was his Shadow or not. Even despite the fact that he hadn't run into any other versions of the moody hedgehog.

To be honest though, he hoped it really was him. He needed a familiar face to recognize him.

Even if it was his rival.

"Shadow?" He asked, slightly confused. "No, you know what? Nevermind. I don't have time to deal with whoever you are. I just want to go home."

Hearing that, Shadow immediately growled.

That was nothing new to Sonic, but this time, he sounded far more ticked off than the speedster had ever heard before.

"Home?" Shadow hissed, getting into a fighting stance. "Home doesn't exist anymore. Because of YOU!"

And with that, he kicked off of the massive purple crystal that was behind him, and launched himself directly at Sonic.

The other hedgehog only just barely managed to dodge the attack with a cry of alarm, before Shadow shattered the crystal he'd just been in front of like it was made out of glass.

"Whoa, hey! What's the big idea, Shadow?! You think I wanted this to happen?!" Sonic cried, struggling to put as much distance between himself and the angry hedgehog as he could.

Shadow instantly spun around, glaring daggers at Sonic, as he prepared to attack him again.

"And why wouldn't I?! You're always rushing into these things without a plan, Faker! Did you ever stop to think for even a second, that trying to get to the Paradox Prism at the same time Eggman launched his weapon would have disastrous results?!" He yelled angrily, Chaos Energy crackling around him in sudden and random bursts. "You're the reason that I've been trapped in this damn Void for who knows how long, and you're the reason our world is gone now! It's all your fault, Sonic!!"

Those words hit Sonic harder than any physical attack ever could, and despite his attempts to prevent them, he felt tears forming in his eyes.

He didn't bother trying to stop Shadow this time, as he was hit with multiple Chaos Spears. Though they did sting terribly.

'Is what Shadow just said really true?' He wondered sadly, thinking back to how horrible his friend's lives were in New Yoke City.

He thought about how everyone was forced under the tyrannical reign of the Chaos Council, and about how most of his friends were having to live underground, as they planned their rebellion.
