The Cliche Coffee Shop AU

A/N: Yes, this is the cliche coffee shop AU as the title says, but I'll try to change it up as much as I can, while still having it fit the plot.

The sun shone a fiery golden as the sky grew darker, preparing for nightfall, and from where he sat in his window seat of the plane, Shadow sighed tiredly.

It was now the fourth hour of the full eight hour flight from his home in Paris, France, to where he, Maria, and Gerald, would be moving to in New York City.

Ever since he and Gerald had succeeded in curing Maria of her NIDS, there was no longer any need for her to stay on the Ark, so they had moved to Paris after coming to Earth since that was one of the places she wanted to see the most.

They had lived there for a few years by this point, and Shadow loved every second of it!

Sure the tourists became annoying quickly, seemingly always asking him for directions to famous locations, and struggling to understand what he was saying as he and his family had taken up French as their main language, but it was also beautiful, inspirational, and most importantly, made Maria happy, so he wasn't about to complain.

Now however, the family of three were in a plane headed to the city of New York in the USA, all because Gerald had gotten a new job offer with a board of elite scientists, who were interested in his work.

But mostly how he created Shadow.

The ebony hedgehog had scoffed upon first hearing that, reminding Gerald that he may have been scientifically engineered, but that he refused to be a lab rat again.

Maria was safe and healthy now, and he did not want to undergo any more tests!

Gerald was then quick to reassure him that wouldn't be the case, and that the others were only curious about him.

He told Shadow that he'd ensure the most he had to do was answer some questions and demonstrate his powers, but other than that, the scientists wouldn't bother him.

Finally, Shadow gave in after hearing that and agreed to the move, but he still wasn't happy about it.

Neither was Maria, but she understood this was important for her grandfather, so she and Shadow spent their last few days in the City of Lights, visiting all of their favorite locations, and their favorite outdoor restaurant.

Now though, they were stuck on a plane for eight hours, and Shadow was beginning to feel restless.

He had never gone this long without running before, aside from the few occasions where he slept, but now, he could feel his legs going numb, and felt as though he'd snap if he didn't move around at least a little bit.

Turning to Maria, who sat next to him, Shadow gently tapped her on her shoulder to gain her attention.

Smiling, the girl turned to her friend.

{"Is everything okay, Shadow?"}
She asked softly. {"You seem tense."}

The hedgehog nodded, but looked down at his Air Shoes.

{"Yes. Everything is fine, Maria. I'm just feeling restless. I've never gone this long without running before, unless you count the occasions where I sleep, and I feel like I'm going to lose it if I can't let out some energy soon."} He replied hesitantly. {"I know we still have a few hours left of this flight though, so I'm not sure what to do."}
