"Well don't worry you're always welcome, honestly." Jay said over the phone and Maddie smiled. "Thank you Jay! Are you sure, your not just being polite?""When have I ever been known to be polite?" Jay asked Maddie laughed. "Touché, well I'll see you all tonight." Then Maddie hung up. She had been invited to the family gathering that Jay was hosting.
That was yesterday, now today Jay felt a bit sick so Claire had to start organising everything. "Luke, Maddie we are leaving!" Claire yelled up the stairs and they came down and got in the car before Claire started rambling about how much of a badass she was at work that week.
"Hey mom, I forgot how fun this car was! Automatic doors and that TV in the back. It's so great." Alex began before Claire interrupted. "You know what else was fun? The party they threw for me at work on Friday. I mean, it was a little bit embarrassing I didn't even know she-ro was a word, and there it was in icing." Claire began going on and on about the work party as they walked up the Driveway to Jay's house.
"Why do you want to come to my family gathering?" Luke asked the brunette who shrugged. "Well you guys are like a second family to me, I mean soon we're all going to Australia together." Maddie smiled excitedly and Luke nodded.
It wasn't strange to anyone that Maddie was coming on vacation with them as her and her family usually always tagged along but Maddie's parents and her sister couldn't get out of work, again, so Maddie was still invited just had to travel with none of her biological family. She spent quite a lot of her time alone in her house so she didn't think she'd mind but the closer it got, the more nervous she got. She'd never been to a different state in America without her parents, let alone going on a 15 hour flight to a foreign country without her parents.
"Hello hello!" Claire called out as she let herself and the kids inside. "Welcome to Jay's night. Names, please. Want to make sure you're on the list." Jay said with a wide grin spewed across his face. "Kidding! Just excited. Appetisers on the bar, scrabble on the coffee table and our feature presentation, The Great Escape. Speaking of which, Haley..."
"Don't worry, Grandpa. I'm not leaving. I have no plans for the night." Haley reassured her grandpa and Alex added a me either to which Haley responded. "But when I say it, it's news."
"When you say any complete sentence, it's news." Alex smiled before Claire intervened. "Hey wanna go check out the appetisers?" Luke winked at Maddie and she looked at him confused. "Why are you winking? Do you have something in your eye?"
"Just get over here." Luke dragged the girl over to the bar where Manny was. "Okay we're out of here. Kristy Hughes, A.K.A Kristy Huge Ones,"
"People call her that? That's so disgusting." Maddie interrupted Luke and grimaced before he carried on anyways. "She's having a pool party two blocks away."
"What about Jay? He thinks we're at a party." Manny gestured to the room which was empty, except them. "He'll never know. We sneak out, work the room, cannonball, cannonball, cannonball and we're back in time for dinner."
"Were you even invited?" Manny asked the boy who shook his head. "That's only because I don't know her or any of her friends."
"We're not invading her house." Manny said as Maddie's phone started ringing so she walked to the corner of the room to answer it as the boys argued. "Hey Alice, what's up?"
"Hey Mads, are you coming to the pool party or not? Kristy wanted to call you but she didn't have your phone number and she's also keeps being hit on and having to throw people out because they're annoying her, so you know." Alice explained as Maddie contemplated her options.
A) Accept the invitation and go alone
B) Accept the invitation and try and convince Kristy to at least let Luke an Manny in if he wanted to
