Name: Tomoe Sarutobi - meaning 'Friend and Blessing' in Japanese as well as after the female Samurai Tomoe Gozen from the late-Heian era. Her last name means 'Monkey Jump' in Japanese and she is From the Sarutobi Clan.

Background:

Tomoe Sarutobi is the only daughter of Hiruzen and Biwako Sarutobi and older sister of Asuma Sarutobi. She was born in the same Generation as Minato and had befriended Kushina while at the academy along with Mikoto Uchiha. She was mainly taught by her father as a child as well as some Fuinjuitsu from Mito and Kushina. After becoming a Genin, she inherits the Monkey Contract of their Family and signs her name on the scroll before joining in on the war effort during the second shinobi war. She ends up making a name for herself during this time, mainly because of her father being the hokage causing her to become a target. Not long after the end of the second shinobi war, Asuma was born and she became a big sister. She loved him dearly and would train with him when their father was too busy. When the Third Shinobi War started, she was sent out again to the front lines and wasn't able to spend as much time with her family as she had during peacetime. She ends up comming across Roshi during this time by chance, though the two never really spoke to each other when they fought. Tomoe ends up being betrayed while on a mission in Iwa and left for dead with a serious injury, her connection to the Hokage causing others to become jelous and resentful of her as well as the fact that she had been taught by Sakumo before his death while she had been a Genin. Tomoe ends up being found by Roshi by complete chance and he is prepared to kill her, however after seeing her situation, and having just been betrayed by yet another 'comrade' himself, he decided against it and brought her to a cave instead. Betrayal was a common occurrence for the Jinchuriki as many ninja were afraid of the tailed beast sealed within him and belived him a danger to the village, especially during war when they were vulnerable. Tomoe ends up waking up a few days later, however is unnable to move freely due to the severity of her injuries while Roshi takes it upon himself to look after her, despite neither of them knowing why he continued to help her. Eventually, Roshi realises that he has been away from Iwa for too long. Since he had already been planning to go rouge and leave the village behind, he decided to commit to the act then and there. Meanwhile, Tomoe was having her own midlife crisis as she was feeling betrayed by her comrades and village. Having already been threatened by Danzo in recent months, having had to deal with her Sensei's death, her father being unnable to give her the time of day and now her own team having stabbed her in the back and left her for dead, she wasn't so sure she wanted to return to her home village either. After she had Healed, she doesn't immediately return to her village or even attempt to contact them, and instead stays with Roshi as he plans to move locations. The two travel an awkward silence while Roshi is named a Rouge Nin by his village and Tomoe is listed as missing in action and presumed dead.

Because of the wars, Hiruzen ended up spending less and less time with his children causing them to distance themselves from him. Asuma becoming closer to Tomoe than him and her being more of a parent as well when he was younger. It was around the time the wars started when Danzo began to approach her with suspicious intentions and she began to become uncomfortable, noticing Danzo's subtly slights against her father as if he was trying to turn her against him and he against her. She had tried to warn her father about Danzo, however was dismissed immediately.
