Name: Shiori Hatake - meaning 'Bookmark' in Japanese and is also a link to her love of reading and a joke about Kakashi with his Icha Icha. And Hatake which means Farmland.

Background:

Shiori is a distant relative of Kakashi and one of the few Hatake alive, having grown up in the land of Iron and watching her family killed, she is left along with no one to turn to. As fate would have it, Kakashi had been sent on a mission to look into a group who had tried to assassinate him. Said group had also happened to be behind the death of Shiori's parents and were looking to eradicate the entire Hatake line. Following a lead brings Kakashi to Shiori and after dealing with the rampant group, he makes the decision to bring Shiori back with him to the hidden leaf village he becomes an older brother figure to her. Having been in hidding for the past few years while being hunted down, being in a new village with another member of her clan is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air. She eventually signs the dog contract, given by Kakashi, as the ones of her own clan has been burned, and she becomes apart of his pack. Because of this, she ends up having more interactions with the Inuzuka clan where she befriends Kiba and Akamaru after bringing her own pups to the Vet for a check up. From their, the two become fast friends and stick together through the academy, Shiori also befriending Naruto along the way. After they graduate and spend less time together due to being on different teams, their relationship changes as Kiba realises his feelings are more than just friends. Meanwhile, remnants of the group who had been hunting the Hatake in the land of Iron begin to resurface, how following Orochimaru who had swooped in to pick up the pieces to his own advantage. Shiori builds up her own pack and ends up joining a team under Gekko Hayate and takes up Kenjuitsu, trying to learn the Hatake style and utilize her unique white chakra from scratch.

During their childhood, Kiba ends up scarring away a lot of the boys who take an interest in Shiori, feeling protective of her though being too young to realise his own jealousy. Tsume meanwhile finds it hilarious.

Her Jonin instructor, Gekko Hayate, is the Proctor in the Chunin exams who gets killed by Baki. He's the one with the cough. He also happens to be a Kenjuitsu User so I thought he would fit best. He also happens to be a Tokubetsu Jonin. Though I've seen him as ANBU in a lot of fanfictions.

I'm not sure weather to have Hayate still die or have Shiori find him in time to save his life after catching his scent or perhaps following the scent of blood.

Shiori's fighting style is mainly based around Kenjutsu and Ninjutsu, having trained with Kakashi once she was brought to the Hidden Leaf Village. She also takes an interest in the Hatake Style Kenjutsu that Kakashi never really got into after his father died, so she teaches herself the Kata's from the clan library and scrolls.

Before Kakashi had found her, she had been born into a small clan of surviving Hatake situated within the land of Iron who had taken up work as wither farmers or Samurai. Many of which having dog or wolf summons that companied them.

When the group came to take out the Hatake line, a group I still haven't planed much about other than anonymous assholes, they also cull the ninken within their compound. I might have it so that Shiori manages to save her own ninken before/during the attack before she manages to get away.

She escapes the group by falling off a cliff and into a river where she later washes up on a river back a new miles away, however her scent had already been washed away for the trackers to follow. She goes into hidding after this, being around 5 or 6 around this time but having started to learn how to use chakra before this from her clan and had been about to start her kenjutsu/samurai training before the incident.

During her time in hidding the group plan a hit on Kakashi, with him being a fairly public Hatake and them wishing to cull the entire line. This assassination attempt of course fails miserably given they are dealing with Ultra depressed ANBU Kakashi at the time. The assassination attempt leads to Kakashi being sent on a mission to deal with the threat which leads him to eventually discovering the existance of Shiori, who is another target of his would be assassins.

He makes contact with her during an attempt on her life and brings her with him. After this, he isn't exactly sure what he is supposed to do given he has basically kiddnapped a random homeless child who may or may not be his cousin. Though he can't bring himself to leave her either. 

Eventually, she ends up being used as bait to lure the group who have already become too wary to go for Kakashi himself. Kakashi feeling confident in his abilities to protect Shiori before she can come to any harm. He deals with the assassins and he brings Shiori back to Konohagakure, unknowingly leaving remnants of the group alive who would later seek revenge.

The group themselves are also discovered by Orochimaru who manipulates them. Might have it so that the group in question had originally been manipulated by Danzo to have issues with the Hatake and take out the threat since this seems like a very Danzo thing to do.

Their will be an abundance of puppy piles, head pats and belly rubs.

Shiori is not impressed by Gai and has decided to avoid him for her own sanity. Gai doesn't get the memo and is exited to become the hip cool uncle/brother figure.

Gai will undoubtedly teach her Taijutsu at one point.

She loves to read and had been introduced to the concept by Kakashi who is adamant to keep Icha Icha away from her at all costs, though will still blatantly read it in front of her while she is oblivious to what it actually is.

Love Interests?

So if Kibe weren't the Love Interest, who would else would be a good match?

~ Sasuke Uchiha - With Sasuke being a student of Kakashi, they would have more reasons to interact, including how both had experienced the death of their respective clans in one way or another, Shiori being lucky enought to have a known surviving member. 

~ Rock Lee - Likely a repeat of Gai and Kakashi when they are younger along with Lee's habit of wishing to beat geniuses, Shiori no doubt being one herself. I can see Shiori becoming competitive to it would be interesting to see the two interact with one another.

~ Neji Hyuga - More than likely end up meeting through Gai and Lee after their team in created and by this time, Neji and Shiori would be about on par with each other so I can imagine Neji either seeing her as a rival or unwillingly showing her respect for her strength

~ Shikamaru Nara - Because who doesn't want to see Shiori and Shikamaru take a nap while in a puppy pile? The two are undoubtedly intelligent and while Shiori does hand around Kiba, she tends to be the one to ground him as she is much calmer.
