" I like food. I like eating. And I don't want to deprive myself of good food."
- Sarah Michelle Gellar************************************************************
I took a small step towards the entrance of the forest. My face scrunched up with me even realizing it, I have a habit of doing that.
Now listen to me when I say I'm in now way, shape, or form a girly girl. I don't squeal when I see a bug. I squash it. And then I move on.
I love nature to be honest, especially the way I can find peace in this screwed up world. It's my safe haven. Most people cry or eat but I'm not like most people.
My thoughts we're broken as I hear the chirping of a bird. I smile and look around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the bird. Sitting on a branch, a couple of feet high, I see a red cardinal watching me.
Maybe I was just paranoid but I swear those beady eyes watched me, judging me. Glaring almost. Well I can stare too!
With a pointed glare at the bird I start into the thick woods.
My mind ran wild with all the possible plans of finding Taylor and leaving this place as soon as I could. My blood boiled at the thought of anyone hurting him.
I walked through the woods looking around, observing. After almost 4 years of being on the run with Taylor and my brother I learned some things.
After walking for what felt like hours I finally came to a main road. Just like Evan had said there was a small diner just a few feet from the forest.
A rugged dusty sign had the name Kim's Place was standing high above the building. It wasnt very sturdy looking but judging from the protests coming my stomach I honestly didn't care.
The first thing I smelled when I pushed open the door was the sweet smell of mayple syrup and pancakes, it made my stomach flip inside out at the delicious smell. The sound of fresh bacon sizzling followed by the smell. Lord I was in heaven. I was pretty sure I was drooling.
The diner was small but cozy. Tables made for 2 took most of the space but there were a few booths scattered around.
I took a seat in one of the booths toward the back of the diner. I looked over the menu and quickly deciding on what I wanted.
Looking around the diner there was only a few people in the room but not one payed attention. Good.
A few minutes after sitting a woman that looked to be in her late 40's came over to my booth. Her long black hair tied back into a pony tail only made her brown eyes stand out. She was very pretty in a down to earth way.
" Ready to order pumpkin? " Her southern accent was strong. She pulled out a pencil and a notebook from her pocket smiling at me.
" Yes. May I have the breakfast platter with a large orange juice, hmm actually make that two." I smiled back at the woman.
" Are you going to be able to eat that? That's a huge serving for someone you're size. " Her surprised expression made me laugh.
" Oh of course. I never get full. " I rubbed my growling stomach trying to calm at down. The smells of eggs and Bacon didn't help one bit.
" Well that'll be $17.50. " I hand her the $20. And tell her to keep the change even though it's not much.
While waiting I start to think. About everything really. Taylor, my brother, my family. I haven't had the best track record with them but to hell with them. They weren't important anymore.
I look at the clock on the wall, 3:47. It hasn't even been 24 hours since Taylor has been gone but I miss him so much already.
Interupting my train of thought a tray filled with food had my name all over it.
The woman sat the tray down on the table and asked me if I needed anything. I quickly shook my head no grinning
Spread out in front of me was a feast. I only wish that Taylor was here to enjoy it with me.
I took a look at my previously empty table now filled with plates of hash browns, pancakes, thick slabs of bacon, cheesy eggs, and toast with jelly. With of course my favorite orange juice. And a bottle of syrup.
I of course knew I probably wouldn't be able to eat all this. But that damn sure didn't mean I couldn't try.
I grabbed a plate from the stack beside all the food and began filling my plate. Drowning my pancakes in syrup ,I took a big bite of my pancakes. I moaned at the sweetness. Heaven on Earth.
I was too preoccupied with my food to hear the door jingle as it opened. By the time I had realized someone had walked in they had taken a seat across from me on my Booth.
Mouth stuffed with eggs my eyes met with the most beautiful pair of dark green eyes I've ever seen. And a smile that went perfectly with it.
