Who could this girl be? Why would Xander keep this from me? Who could she be that Jake was that cruel to her?My mind went back to what Grunt said earlier.

Tortured her enough to beg huh? Why? What did she do wrong? I grimaced when I thought about the pain she must've received. But who is she?
So many thoughts continued to run through my head as I stared at the window. I must have been stressing too much about this, because I didn't notice anyone walk into the living room until,

"Sir, everything has been prepared," Elvis, our newest recruit, said to Xander. I  turned my head to the side when I heard Xander speak.

"Good. Take our guest there and tell Grunt the order is from me. Fingers first, one after the other. Till our buddy starts talking. After you feel we've got enough information from him, shoot him," Xander said casually yet coldly.

He looked angry I could tell. And I don't think it's for the buddy in the basement. Who's gonna be screaming in the next couple of minutes if he doesn't play his cards right. I'm not sure Xander had even noticed my presence, cause he went into his office right  after he spoke to Elvis.

Well, he's in a pricky mood. I thought as the office door slammed shut.

Honestly, I couldn't care less what he was angry about. At the moment, all I cared about was who the heck is that girl? Why he didn't inform me about her? And why was Jake given the approval to give orders? Last time I checked, Jake wasn't even supposed to be involved with our operations. His job is to protect Xander as his bodyguard.

I mean.......come on!
I'm the second-in-command, Xander's Right Hand, not to mention his freaking girlfriend.  A heads-up would've been nice. I groaned as more thoughts swarmed into my head.
The more I thought about this, the more angry I got. Suddenly my phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey, it's Aiden. I got the info you asked for. Come get it when you're ready," I glanced over at Xander's office.

He won't miss me.

"Already on my way."

"Anna Cain. Age? 30, Nationality? American, place of employment? Someplace called WJ news station, says here she's a journalist, married to a police officer, no kids or pets whatsoever," Aiden said after reading from the screen shown on the wall by the projector. I looked at the woman on the screen.

"What's her offense?" I asked Aiden.

"Well from what it says on Jake's report, she did some snooping on us, got evidence of the kind of stuff we do around here. Threatened to make it go public unless we paid her at least a billion dollars annually,"

"Sounds kind of like a desperate reporter to me. You think Jake's right," I asked.

"Possibly, all reporters want a big juicy story. Get a good story and you get a promotion or a reward. In other words, more money than you're normally paid or you can get you're hands on. So I believe it," Aiden replied.

"And I know I don't usually support Jake's reports, but I'll admit it makes sense to me. I mean, if she's from the media and she stuck her head into our business, evidence or no evidence, she'd still be a threat to us," Aiden said. I nodded in agreement.

"Proof?"

"Anna's or Jake's?" Aiden asked.

"Both."

"Destroyed. How? Dunno. As for Jake, a voice record of Anna asking for money in exchange for silence,"

"Who inspected the recording?" I asked him.

"Xander," At that, my eyes hardened and my hands clenched into fists. I immediately left the lab in search of Xander.
