Edward's POV
On the fifth ring, the receiver accepted the video call, revealing Charles Clawn.
"What is it, Edward?" I gulped. Here goes nothing.
"Sir, the hostage has escaped. ," He frowned at me questionably.
"Oh? How come?"
"It appears she was able to free herself. We found a knife underneath the bed," Charles laughed.
"Well she certainly is creative. Where's Jake?"
"Asleep, sir. It seems he drank himself to stupor."
"I see," he said, staring at me in thought.
"Sir, what do should we do?"
"Find the hostage, of course. She possibly couldn't have gotten far. She's in my city, wounded and unarmed. Find her and keep her contained in her room before I return."
Return?
"Sir?"
"That's correct, Edward. I'm on my way back," I clenched my jaw.
"Xander thinks he can outsmart me with he's little tricks. Expect me back in twenty four hours. I shall punish Eva. Myself." The call ended. A thought crossed my mind as I recalled Charles facial expressions when he spoke to me.
He's suspicious of me. I gritted my teeth, and turned to the guards and henchmen that stood before me.
"Find the hostage. I want her brought back to me in the next twelve hours. Find her now!" They all ran out of the office and I rushed to Eva's room.
Where could she have gone? I located her tracker and it led to the balcony.
The balcony? She's hiding on the roof? I approached the balcony.
It's a good idea, those guards w never think to look for her here. I climbed up.
"Eva," I whispered. No sign of her.
There wasn't any sign of blood, but where was she? I noticed a writing in white chalk.
Did Eva write this? I doubt. Looks it was written by a toddler. I looked closely, noting the faint arrow line pointing south.
What? But that's the library.
I sighed. "Dammit Eva."
"One job. You had one job. Stay out of f-ing sight and wait for me." This is bad. The guards are searching for her. If they manage to find her, Charles will have us both dead. I looked at the writing.
If it's really Mckenzie that wrote this, then there's a chance someone knows about this spot. Eva might have thought of that as well and decided to find another hiding place. I sighed.
"I have to hurry," I ran south.
