Flashback to Three Years
"Mmmph," I groaned, feeling my body trapped for some reason. I opened my eyes, shutting them almost immediately after they were blinded by sunlight radiating from the curtains.
"Too bright," I said groggily.
"Eva!" I furrowed at the high-pitched voice that pierced my eardrums, but I wasn't able to make out whose voice it was.
Probably McKenzie trying to ask for my help again. I noticed a blurry figure come into my view. I squinched my eyes trying to make out the person, but couldn't. I gave up and tiredly closed my eyes.
"Eva, are you okay? " That sounds like Rita.
"Hold on Rita. Give her some space," Hmm... Kai?
"But is she okay?" Aiden?
I thought I told them to be quiet when on a mission.
Wait, mission?
No, we're done with the mission. We got the supplies and everything. We were on our way back when... I opened my eyes in confusion.
The explosion? I gasped and sat up immediately.
"Eva," I looked at the three persons in front of me.
"You're okay," I said in relief.
"I thought I lost you," Rita and Aiden ran and hugged me.
"We thought we lost you too. We were so scared," Rita cried. I laughed.
"Well it take more than a mini bomb to take me out," I looked at Kai, who was sobbing.
"Why would you do that? If the boss hadn't turned up and rescued you, you would've died," He babbled. I froze.
Boss?
"Wait did-," Just then, the door opened and Ralph, Justin, and Xander walked into the room. I gulped when Xander immediately made eye contact with me, and he did not look happy.
"Leave us," He said to the three of them. They bowed, turned to me and all hugged me before they left. Justin approached me.
"Sorry, I couldn't protect you that night babe. It's my fault," He stood in front of me. His face was in regret.
"You're my teammate Justin. It's my duty to protect you and everyone else in the mafia," He smirked at me.
"Well you've earned my respect," I smiled at him. He bowed, then left the room. I turned to Ralph, who looked like he was about to burst into tears.
"You can hug me if that's what you want to do," He quickly ran to me and hugged me.
"I'm so sorry Eva. I didn't know they had a bomb. It's my fault," I smiled.
"No Ralph, it's my fault. I was the one who initiated the mission without Xander's approval. I was the one who made us ambush them and I failed to protect my teammates. You got shot in the leg, are you okay?" He stared at me with sad eyes.
"I'm fine, but you're the one that the bomb was thrown at. You could've died," I rolled my eyes.
"Well I'm fine now, aren't I," I hit my right shoulder.
"See? As strong as iron," Ralph chuckled.
"Yeah, I guess. But this is the second time since you got here, you've been in a come for a few days. Don't do that ever again,"
