"What are these?" Justin grabbed the documents and went through them.
"That's quite some documents about the Prestin family," Aiden said.
"Which is strange. What's a local town journalist like Anna Cain doing with these?" I asked perplexed.
"I don't know but, look," Justin dropped them in the desk.
"An agreement contract on drug dealing, signed by Xander and McKenzie's dads," He pointed out.
"Twenty million dollars to contribute to the foundation of the Prestin Hotel," I read out loud.
"I remember. That's the third building Dale constructed. Charles is the one that made that contribution after Dale agreed to lend one of the organizations he used to transport and distribute illegal drugs," Aiden informed.
"What about this?" Justin asked gesturing to a particular document.
"Isn't this the deed that was handed down to Xander? The one that has access to the entire Prestin empire?" Aiden asked with wide eyes. I grabbed it and went through it.
"This is just a copy. The Mafia has the original. Judging all these, I'd say they all are copies,"
"Yeah, but the question is? How did Anna get them?" Aiden asked. I searched the drawer and picked up a voice recorder.
"Check this out," I pressed play. Some static was heard in the background along with some footsteps and the opening of a door.
"Mr Clawn, I've come to ask for a repayment over the assurance for my silence," a female voice spoke. I assumed it was Anna. Some chuckling and the voice of Charles Clawn was heard.
"Mrs Cain. What can I do for you?"
"You heard me earlier,"
"Ah, well as you may not know. My partner is no more and his firstborn has taken over his empire,"
"What? Dale's dead?!"
"Yes, I'm afraid so. So he's not around anymore to believe your pathetic lies," there were some footsteps.
"I don't know how your mother got those documents, but I'll tell you this. They're copies. So you don't have any proof of me whatsoever. Even if you did have one on the Prestin family, Xander would know your next move before you can even implement it. I hear he's worse than his father when it comes to a threat," His voice sounded louder, indicating that they were at a closer distance. There was a pause.
"That so, but I doubt he or Dale knew anything about you blowing up one of his mines, or deceiving some of his trusted shareholders to join your side. I may not have proof of you enough to put you in jail, but I do have enough to bring you down. Imagine if Xander got to know them, then I'm sure he wouldn't let it slide. Believe me, I hear he's worse than his father when it comes to a threat," Justin cackled, then immediately shut his mouth.
"Sorry," We continued listening.
"Alright. I'll give you the money, but you have to be as far from here as possible," I could almost feel Anna smirking victoriously.
"You have my word. Hand me the money and you won't hear from me ever again," Footsteps were later heard and the voice recorder stopped playing.
"Damn. Looks like Charles's not who we thought he was," Justin said. I picked up another document.
"We, party A, hereby have come to an agreement that an amount of five million US dollars will be debited into Mrs. Anna Cain's, party B, account over the condition that no evidence concerning party A will be publicized by party B. Signed by Dale Prestin, Charles Clawn, and Anna Cain," I read out loud. Justin whistled.
