It wasn't long till I had gotten the hang of being in control. Ralph explained my duties to me and I began to work immediately. At first, the gang wasn't ready to accept me as their second leader, but being in the criminal chasing field for so long, I was able to do a thing or two that actually made them want to listen to me and follow my orders, without any help from Ralph of course. I sighed.
It had been exactly three days since Xander went on his so-called business trip and exactly three days, my mind had been clouded with thoughts about him, whenever I wasn't busy.
Is it weird to say that I miss him? I sighed again.
Yup, it's been confirmed. I have a crush on him. I groaned, lying on my bed as I stared at the ceiling. I smiled thinking about him once again. The bedroom door opened and I gasped in delight.
Xander? I sat up immediately and frowned when I noticed it was Ralph.
"Ughhh," I laid back on my bed.
"What's wrong with you? Didn't get the stuff you wanted online? " He smiled in amusement.
"No, not that. Just was expecting someone hotter," I said.
What are you doing?
"Ouch, that hurt. I don't look hot enough to you?" I sat up.
"No, you are. Just expecting someone that I particularly find hot," I exaggerated.
Stop that. Stop taking. Ralph's eyes grew to the size of a saucepan.
"Does Eva Albert have a crush on someone?"
"Yup,"
Eva shut the heck up now. Before you dig up your own grave. Ralph ran to me and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Who?" He asked shuffling closer.
"Our boss," I immediately covered my mouth.
You've done it. I looked at Ralph. His eyes stayed the size of a saucepan, but his jaw dropped to the floor. Literally.
"WHAT?!" He grabbed me by my shoulders.
"SINCE WHEN?!" I looked at him, eyes wide.
"Would you keep it down? You gonna make everyone come over here with your screaming," I took his hands off me.
"Since when?" He asked me firmly.
"Since I came here," he palmed himself.
"Oh my gosh, Eva. You've been here for about a week and you've already started falling for your boss?" I scoffed.
"It's not my fault. He made me fall for him by looking hot,"
"You like your boss because he's hot?" He asked me in disbelief.
"Actually, it's a lot more than that," I smiled at him. Ralph sighed.
"Eva your his right-hand man, not his future girlfriend,"
"Actually it's right-hand woman, and-,"
"Your missing the point. The point is, he's your boss, and it has to stay that way. He can't be your lover," I pouted.
"But why can't he be both?" Ralph crossed his arms.
"I doubt he'll agree to date you," I smiled at him.
"I'll take that as a challenge," He shook his head at my stubbornness.
"Whatever Miss Unstoppable. We have a mission," He threw a folder to me.
"Our supplies got stolen and are currently being stored at one of our rival's warehouses. We need to go get it back," I went through the file.
"How'd it get to our rival's warehouse?" I asked him.
"One of our store collectors, Joe, was on his way to deliver some supplies to us, and got so careless, that he was followed by the cops. Luckily, he figured it out before he reached the hideout," I looked at him alarmed.
"Did he rat us out?" Ralph shook his head.
"Negative, he's scared of what Xander would do to him if he snitches. So when the cops asked him where he was heading to and where he had the supplies stocked up, he didn't say anything. Currently, he's being detained at the police station. The next morning, the cops raided his home and confiscated everything. How it ended in our rival's warehouse is because, they broke into a military warehouse and stole everything, including military weaponry," I gaped at him.
"They stole from the military?" He nodded. I thought it over and went through the file once more.
"I don't know, it doesn't sound like a coincidence. Why would our rival steal those supplies from the police immediately after the police confiscated them from us? Doesn't it feel like a scheme to you?" I asked him.
"It does, but we need those supplies," Ralph argued.
"Can't we just get supplies from somewhere else? Didn't you say we have more than one supplier?" He nodded.
"I already tried that, but all the other suppliers have no new stock at the moment and the only other supplier we have is in Arizona and he can't transport any supplies because there's a search going on for a criminal who assassinated the Vice President in his country. He's worried they'll mistake him for the criminal, and even if they don't, they'll wanna know who's receiving those supplies. So he has to lay low for the meantime until they find the culprit,"
"What about our remaining stocks?"
"Finished. We were hoping Joe would be our last hope before we placed an order for more," I looked at him in disbelief.
"Whose idea was that?" I asked him.
"Jake," I groaned.
Great. I bit my lip.
That makes the supplies stolen our last option. I sighed.
"I don't know Ralph. Didn't Xander say no missions unless he returns?"
"No, he said no new missions before he returned. Besides, this isn't a new mission. It's a mission that's been on hold for two weeks now, and it can't be delayed any longer. We're running out of supplies and if we don't restock soon, there'll be no missions to complete when he returns," Ralph said, finally convincing me.
"Alright, fine. When do we start?" He shrugged.
"I don't know. Your the boss, you give the orders," I gaped at him as he literally just dumped the mission on me. A mission we're doing without Xander's permission. I gritted my teeth.
"Fine. Let's start tomorrow night. The sooner we begin the better. Gather a small team, and keep it discreet. I just earned everyone's respect, I don't want to lose it," He nodded.
"You got it, boss," He gave a salute and walked out of the room. I sighed.
It'll be okay Eva. You've got this.
