Flashback To Chapter Twenty
In The Middle Of The Night
Eva's POV
"Eva."
"Eva."
"Ralph?"
"Eva."
"Ralph. Hold up. Where are you?" I reached out for him. He felt close but yet so far away.
"Eva," His voice began to fade away.
"Ralph!" My face felt wet.
"Mia amore, wake up," I opened my eyes and got up. I let out heavy breaths as I took in my surroundings.
That's right. I'm in Xander's room.
"Nightmare?" I turned to my right to see Xander seated on the bed next to me with a sad smile on his face.
"Are you alright? You sweating alot, and your crying," I stared at him and then sniffled.
"Xander," I immediately hugged him.
"What's the matter, Tigre?" I stayed quiet.
"Looks like Ralph's death is taking a toll on you," He said, caressing my hair gently.
"It was awful. He was calling me, but I couldn't find him. He sounded so far yet so near, but all I could see was darkness," Xander stayed quiet and continued to comfort me. He lifted me up and placed me on his lap, laying my head on his chest.
"I'm sorry, Eva. It's my fault. If I had paid closer attention to Ralph, he wouldn't have died," I placed my hand on Xander's chest to feel his heartbeat, so I could control mine.
I thought alot about Ralph's death since I found out. There were times I wanted to blame myself, but I couldn't. There were times when I wanted to blame Xander, but if it was meant to happen, Ralph would've died either way. I just didn't expect its be this soon."Eva, can I ask you a question?" I shook my head, not in the mood to talk. Yet he ignored my request.
"If I were to die today, what would you do?" I glared at him.
"What kind of dumb question is that?"
"How is that a dumb question?"
"You can't die," He snorted at my answer.
"I'm not f-ing immortal."
"True. But if you were supposed to die, you would have a long time ago," He smirked.
"Is that so?"
"Yup. Actually Xander. I don't you can die. At least not that easily. Not even the government can kill you and the only person who can is God himself. Except he doesn't kill his creations, he blesses them with forever life," Xander smiled sadly.
"I'm not worth forever life for all the things I've done, Eva," I frowned.
"I have a lot of enemies, Tigre. Some that are jealous of what I have. Others that just want to end my life. Because of who I am," He placed my hair behind my ear.
"Do you know what will happen if I die?" He kissed me.
"I'd lose everything. The Mafia, the company, the gang, my family, Justin, and more importantly, you," He smiled.
"And losing you would be worse than death," I looked into his eyes seeing the guilts and regrets, masked by pain.
Is he hiding something from me? I thought of what to say next.
"You know if you died, I can't kill myself. Neither can I kill your killers. Cuz if I'd do that, then I wouldn't go to forever life," I paused.
"So if you died, I'd cry and mourn your death for a months, but-," I placed my arms around his neck.
"I wouldn't mourn your loss forever, Xander. I'd get tired and move on. I'd give the mafia to Justin and leave to start over with my life. I'd fall in love with another guy and probably have kids with him," I pushed him to the bed and sat on top of him.
"I'd live with him for the rest of my life creating wonderful memories together till we're old and gray, and die a peaceful death with him. Who knows, if I do see him in forever life, he'd still be my true love and not you," Xander clenched his jaw at what I had just said.
"So get this into you head Xander. If you die, those moments that are supposed to happen between me and you, will happen with someone else. Noted?" He grunted.
"Noted," I smiled and kissed him.
End of flashback
"Wakey wakey, Xander's bitchy."
