⚠️. Millan’s POVFinally! after an hour of walking through wrecked houses and empty dead streets, we arrived at De'Clan’s laboratory.
This facility of Cameron is the last one in this city, wala itong ibang pwesto o pinagawang gusali kasi gusto nito isa lang ang branch na alam ng mga tao.
But the moment I saw the building’s state, I dropped my bag and stood there with disappointment written on my face.
“What the hell? bakit nila sinunog?!” Collin screamed but Mavis covered her mouth immediately, suddenly afraid of being heard by those undeads lurking somewhere in this area.
I walked over to the front of the laboratory, the whole place is still burning like it was only torned down hours ago.
“Parang kani-kanina lang ito sinunog, ni wala man lang tayo natanaw na usok o aninag ng apoy nito” Jacen said before pointing at a certain spot.
There were laboratory chemicals on the floor, the broken equipments are scattered everywhere and the worst part is that everything is now useless or can’t be any of use.
This was our last hope on multiplying the medicine we created. We went all the way here only to get the disatisfaction and the sight of the burned place.
I covered my face with both of my hands as I tried taking everything in. I felt Asteria going to my side and comforted me, the same goes to Mavis showing enough comfort for Collin.
“Unbelievable, pinaghirapan natin gawin ito and now that nakarating na tayo, paano natin mapaparami ito?” Collin asked, her tone changing from calm to furious.
“Wala na ba ibang paraan?” Asteria asked. Collin and I shook our heads, this was the only way and we had no other plans about the medicines.
“Teka, bakit ba kailangan paramihin yung gamot? Look, I don’t wanna sound rude or selfish but hindi ba pwedeng tayo na lang ang makinabang imbis na paparamihin niyo lang para sa ikabubuti ng iba?” Stormy implied. I noticed the way she talked, the way her voice is now replaced with worry and fear.
“Stormy has a point, if there are people we should help then it’s us. We’re on our own now, don’t you think it’s time to put ourselves first?” Grazer states.
I looked down, letting the train of my unwanted thoughts distract me. What Grazer said had been a slap to my real intentions, but I do not intend to disregard the fact that we needed more help than most people do.
Her words are somehow true and I am slowly agreeing because in fact, kami na lang talaga ngayon ang magtutulungan dito. I guess hindi ko lang matanggap na naubusan na kami ng oras para makatulong sa ibang tao.
“Alright, let’s just keep the remaining medicines and find the quarantine headquarters just in case there are rescues” I told them before storming off from my spot.
I did not spare a single glance at it no more as I’ve already felt all the disappointment and anger towards what occured from the place.
Something just doesn’t sit right. How come the place is already burned down when we arrived? like, Cameron is predicting our every move without even noticing it.
I’ve been thinking about the possible things or reasons why Cameron is so eager to destroy everything I needed. Her ways of showing hatred towards me is a living proof that I will never have my way before her.
But that doesn’t mean I’ll never win because once I get my hands on her, I will drag her to her own down fall.
We continued walking further and away from the burnt laboratory. Sage kept stealing glances at me that I obviously can feel and see from my peripheral view.
I turned to Sage before speaking. “What? I can feel all your stares” they all gave me worry look.
“Mills, we know you worked and thought hard about that medicine both you and Collin created, but we were curious..” imik ni Asteria na ikinatigil ko.
She stops midway of her sentences and glanced at everyone else, even Collin was giving me a curious look and so, I waited for them to ask their questions.
“We were just curious what was in that medicine? Collin said she helped you create those but she haven’t seen the real process of your chemical calculations” Asteria asks with a hint of curiosity in her voice.
They all shifted their attention to me while waiting for my decent answers about what I did to the medicine cure.
“I cannot tell you just yet because I need proofs if it’ll cure someone or be of use” I replied plainly.
They went silent but had confused looks towards me though I ignored it, knowing they will never understand even if I try to explain much clearer and further.
I want them to observe what the medicine is really for. I want them to know that I am not doing this for myself only or for the people who are in need of help.
Because I am doing this for them.
“But if you’re doubting with what I’m up to, you’re free to separate paths with me” I continued from walking without looking back at them.
“Wait, that’s not— Mills, we’re not doubting yo—” before Asteria could reply back, we heard a loud siren coming from across the streets.
“It’s a patrol, we need to hide” Grazer whispers before pulling everyone else into a space inside the woods since we were walking beside a small forest.
We hid behind a giant rock covered by tall trees as the patrol vehicle passed by with its siren almost alarming the whole streets.
We heard small growls and grunts from behind, these undeads must’ve been alarmed by the loud sirens that we had to leave as soon as possible.
“Shit, I think I heard something” Collin whispered. We took little steps from leaving our spots and as soon as I was about to ran up, a zombie’s hand grasped my left leg.
I groaned and repeatedly kicking the undead in its face. The others panicked and didn’t know what to do, so Stormy had to take my axe before slashing the zombie’s arms.
I got out of its grasps and with the help of Jacen, I quickly stood up from my spot with the undead’s body still moving from the ground.
“Let’s get out of here bago pa sila dumami” Mavis called out as we left the area in a hurry.
We already heard loud growlings from afar, indicating that a horde is coming for us. Their sense of hearing are active but their sense of seeing is blur because as far as I know, they can’t properly see during daylight.
The sun’s light can block their fractured eyesight, meaning that they won’t be able to see if their eyes are also damaged, so they use their other body senses.
“Ayos ka lang? hindi ka ba nahagip?” tanong ni Jacen at umiling ako. Hindi naman ito umatake nung hindi ako gumagalaw kaya agad ko rin nasipa ito papalayo sa paa ko.
“I think Cameron is really doing this on purpose. First of all, she burned the last remaining laboratory branch and second, ang random ng pag-gala nung patrol na yun sa lugar na ito”
Collin is right. It’s like Cameron has her keen eye on us from afar that everything and anywhere we run, we always see danger heading towards us.
This is not a coincidence but all of this still doesn’t add up to my suspicions that Cameron is somehow controlling her people just to get my head and throw me into hell.
I don’t know if she’s controlling her people or someone is controlling her.
“Millan, tara na” pag-aaya ni Sage. I nodded and told them that I’ll be just behind them.
Just as they all turned ahead, I found something that turned my suspicions even higher than I thought.
Cameron is controlling someone I’m with.
