⚠️. 3RD PERSON’S POV

Feeling the weigh of anger surging inside Millan, she ran forward and pushed Sage as the younger almost stumbled to Stormy’s back.

“Wh-what’s wrong?” Sage stuttered, her brows furrowing from Millan’s sudden push of her back.

“Mills, ano ba? muntik na matumba si Sage” Grazer spoke as Millan stayed silent but glared at Sage who is now staring at her with confusion.

“Tell us the truth, Sage. Why do you have a hidden in earpiece with you?” before Sage could talk back and touch her left ear, Millan had beat her to it and snatched her earpiece.

The rest stares at her in utter shock while waiting for Sage to speak up. Millan held the earpiece device up to her ear, there she heard someone talking from the other line of it.

It was somehow familiar, like the tone had lingered in her head and ears before. It sounded too familiar that Millan threw the device out of annoyance.

“Sage? mind telling us what’s the earpiece about?” Collin tried asking the latter. She kept her voice calm, not wanting to push any of her own red buttons with the situation.

“Ikaw, you’re the one who’s been telling Cameron everything including my plans” Millan pointed at Sage. Grazer tried stepping in front but Sage stopped her.

She exhaled the panic feeling that was left hanging in the air and heaved a sigh, deeper than what she is hiding from her friends.

“I’m sorry I hid this from all of you pero ito lang yung tanging paraan para maligtas tayong lahat” Sage tried explaining but Millan’s patience wears thin and told her to make it more understandable for them.

“Look, hawak ni Cameron sa leeg ang mga magulang ko na nagtratrabaho sa kaniya. Makikita ko lang ulit sila kung dadalahin ko kayo mismo sa kaniya as a proof that I kept my word..” at this point, no one spoke.

No one dared utter another word after Sage explained everything and the sole reason why Cameron is controlling her behind their backs.

Cameron had kept her parents for a long time now and the only way to retrieve them alive is to bring her the bounty that everyone is hunting for.

Millan. As Sage explained further, Cameron wanted to force Millan to work for her in order to get the President’s full trust and award her as the new mayor of Crest-Haven.

“Millan, they spread the virus on purpose so that Cameron can prove the government that she can rebuild the whole city alone and once they are done with you, they will eventually kill you” Sage explained,  each words lacing with concern and dejection.

Collin cursed under her breath but kept it quiet as possible, not forgetting that there are undeads still lurking in their area.

Jacen and Stormy shared a worried look, Asteria held Mavis who is now shaking in fear. They might’ve missed that Cameron is also hunting Collin for her head because she is the one who can approve Millan’s calculations when doing an experiment.

After all, Collin is smart when it comes to certain viruses types. Her skills are needed because she can depict what kind of virus is curable and what is not.

And that is one way of Cameron using the both of them for her own satisfaction but not for lending a hand at the others who are in urgent need of help.

“I’m sorry, Millan. I just wanted to see my parents again before anything could happen to them or before this chaos gets worse” Sage cried out loud, her cries are loud enough to be heard from across streets.

Grazer had to hug her instead in comfort, so that they could avoid being seen or heard by the undeads lurking.

Millan stared at them, her bag of thoughts hanging in the cold air. She couldn’t blame Sage after everything because she was being manipulated. She didn’t know why reacted that way either when she could’ve understood the Sage’s situation first before raging with anger.

But yet, Millan couldn’t help but wonder. Out of all people, Cameron is using someone so innocent and kind just to fulfill her wicked schemes and then what? she gets all the things she always wanted and Millan getting nothing in return.

“Cameron doesn’t get to win every time. We’re going to the quarantine headquarters to get your parents but as soon as we get them, we’ll head to the airport” Millan states what she had in mind.

The others agreed to this and left no choice but to go with it for their own sake. They needed to leave soon and with Cameron now putting a bounty after Millan and Collin, they will surely come across sorts of danger now than before.

“We’re almost there and I promise, I will not turn you to Cameron herself” Sage promised and took note that whatever happens, she won’t put them all in danger.

She already betrayed them once by working with Cameron but she had come to the realizations that she won’t do it twice and face the consequences of her own actions.

“Tara na, we have a long way to go and as soon as we get there, si Cameron agad papatayin natin” Collin uttered with each of her words lacing with the wrath of her underlying intentions to Cameron.

The group continued walking with Sage leading the way since her sense of directions are always on point and the paths they already crossed never led them astray, even if the streets are empty and silent.

Their feet would drag them all the way to their final destinations with someone leading the right way.

“How is Millan so sure that we’ll be able to leave this place sooner?” Mavis asks Collin who’s walking beside her.

Millan couldn’t hear their conversation as the red haired is already walking in a speed and took the wide space, far from where they are.

Collin glanced at Millan before turning back at her lover. “Trust me, she knows what’s the best for us better than I do” Collin’s gaze turned soft and squeezed the hands of her lover.

She knew either Millan, Grazer or Asteria would guide them to the light of new hope. A path where they will no longer seek a shelter to circumvent from the amount of dangers occuring and arriving.

Collin always knew that either of the three are the key to their reality escape and form a new life outside this hell hole. She knew from the start that Millan had a plan all along, Asteria came back so that she could guide them and Grazer tagged along as their own banner of protection.

Collin had always been the smartest one, she knew things even from the very start of it. Even when Millan gave the last bottle of anti-biotics to Asteria, leaving her with nothing but a weak body where the virus could easily crawl into her veins and blood.

She sighed. If there is someone from their group who is willing to die for them, then it would be Millan.

After all, Millan’s plans are all about saving the rest of them but not herself.
