Chapter 22

It's been a month since I last saw Yolisa. But we do talk, only when it involves the kids. It's been quite tough moving on from her, but everyday and learning how to leave without her.

Our divorce will be finalized on Friday, which is in the next two days. She tried attesting to the conditions I put out, but she lost that battle.

I got full custody of Lihleli, but with Elihle and Asive we agreed on shared custody. She wanted shared with Lihleli too, but with how things have been in the house, I don't trust her with my daughter.

I got my own place after we agreed on selling our home and splitting the profit. She also got an apartment.

I ended things with Liyema a month ago after Yolisa disappointed me and also after the confession I made to my kids.

I realised I hadn't been a good parent, or rather leading by example, cause what Elihle said to me that day had me thinking.

I knew I would kill someone if they treated Lihleli the way I've treated both the women in my life and I'm not doing any of that nonsense anymore.

I chose to focus on myself and heal before pursuing any relationship with another woman.

Well now I'm at work patiently waiting for four to hit so I can knock off. Or I can leave this place right now. I own this shit. But then again, I need to lead by example.

I anyways had to fetch Lihleli at four cause that's when she was finishing with her sports and academic stuff. So leaving and going home, then having to come back this side again would be a waste of petrol, since her school is closer to my office.

Whilst I waited for four, I decided to just start with the goals and objectives for my company for the next quarter. My phone rang whilst I was busy and when I looked at the caller ID, I hesitated to answer, but it could be about the kids so I answered letting out a sigh.

-Yoli?

-Hey... Uhm, I know I have Elihle and Asive this week, but please can you fetch them from school. I'm held up somewhere.

-What time?

-Asive is at three and Elihle is at half past three.

-Fine.

-Thank you. I'll come fetch them when I finish here.

-Cool. Just give me a heads-up.

-Will do. Bye.

I hung up without answering. Honestly, the less I speak to her, the better. Yoli and I broke each other, and I don't want to speak to someone I'm trying to forget.

I looked at the time and saw I was running quite late. I let out a sigh as I finished typing the last few points.

I finished after some ten minutes, then I packed my stuff in my laptop bag and tidied up my desk. When I was finished I grabbed my blazer from the hanger and put it on.

There was a knock on my door, then it opened. It was my assistant Jessica. "Yes, Jes. What can I do for you?" I ask then she gave me a file.

"Lea said you needed it by the end of today, so she asked me to give it to you so you can review it and see if you have any reservations that she must fix before the end of the work day." She explains.

I leaned against my table and opened it. It was the plans I asked her to improve due to the changing economy and technology. I just feel that when we are approached with a deal to design a structure, or building, and so on, we need to put our best foot forward so we can have more investors and deals that can generate the company with more income. Hence the improvement of the plans.

But now, looking at these plans, I'm not quite impressed. Lea is an intern here and I gave her this project specifically, so I could test how she works under pressure and her problem solving skills. The plans were drawn by another one of my employees some two/three years back and I gave her the same plans so she can improve and modernise them. Maybe this task was hard.

"Uhm, okay Jes. Thank you. Please just call her to my office." I say then she smiles. "Yes boss." She says then I cringe.

She laughs as she turns around and walks to my door. "You gotta stop calling me that." I say to her then she shrugs her shoulders with a back still faced to me.

"Keeping it professional boss." She teases again then I smile and shake my head as she gets out and closes my door.

I grab my phone and call Elihle.

-Ma?

-Eli, tell me something. What time are you finishing there?

-At half past three. Why?

-What are you doing?

-Nothing really. I just don't wanna go home.

-Why?

-I was hoping to tell you when we are with you.

-Okay, I'm fetching you guys today. But I need a favour since you got nothing going on.

There was a slight knock on my door. "Come in." I say. Lea came inside then I nodded my head telling her imma be with her when I finish here.

-Please walk to Asive's school and sign him out. I'm just held up a bit and I won't make three.

-Okay ma. Should we walk back here, or should I stay at his school?

-Go back. I just wanna fetch all of you at once. I don't wanna do up and down.

-Okay ma. We'll prolly be back at school by quarter to four then.

-Thats okay. Lihleli is finishing at four anyways.

-Okay ma. See you soon.

-Okay boy. See you now.

I hang up then give my attention to Lea.

"Please come sit." I say then she sits on one of the chairs. I sit on a chair next to her and open the file.

"Do you mind telling me what you have improved on these plans?" I ask then she slides the file to her side.

She looks at it then points at the electric supply.

We speak about the plans for the next fifteen minutes then I give her another task.

She stood up and walked to the door after she had accepted the challenge. "Oh and Lea..." I call her before she leaves. She turns around and looks at me.

"I'll give you two days. Please impress me." I say then she smiles and nods her head. I didn't build this company from the ground to be given mediocre work.

Either you work your fingers to the bone, or you resign if it's too much to handle. I will not accept work that looks like it has been done by a highschool learner.

I stood up and pushed the chair in the desk. I grabbed my laptop bag and phone and checked if my car keys were still in my blazer pocket. When I felt them I switched off the lights and got out of my office.

I locked the doors and walked down the passage till I got to the desk with my assistant. "Jessica I'm out. If anything is supposed to come to me just keep it with you and I'll grab them tomorrow." I say to her then she nods her head.

"Will do Miss S." She says then I shake my head at the new nickname.

"Boss what better." I say then she laughs.

"Boss it is. But if I'm being honest, I can't call my boss by her name, so you'll need to adjust." She says then I smile and not my head.

"So long as it's professional and respectful." I say then she smiles shrugging her shoulders.

"See you tomorrow then." I say then walk to the elevator. I press the button then it opens. I get in then close it and press LG and it goes down to where my car is parked.
