Castiel's POV
Y/N and I had come back from the bunker and spent the few hours practicing her Enochian, and she had gotten really good, but still had some words to learn. It wasn't the easiest language to learn, but she had managed to learn not only to read it and write it but had almost learnt to speak it. She was special, and I just wanted her to end the testing and not go back to it, but I knew it wasn't going to be easy to convince her. Oliver, the demon ex-boyfriend, had been a surprise, and I didn't know how to deal with him. He had said so many things that had angered me and I wanted to hurt him, which didn't sit well with me. As it was getting late Y/N had gotten into bed and fallen asleep, but as I lay there next to her, I couldn't relax.
I ran my left hand down her right arm and my fingers touched a ring that was on her ring finger. I smiled as I remembered earlier when I had given her the ring to help with her dreams. We had been sitting on the couch, just after practicing her Enochian and she was cuddled into my side. I had dug the ring from my pocket and played with it for a little bit before she sat up and her eyes looked at my hand, "What have you got there?" she had asked.
I smiled, "A gift, for you" and I held out my hand, palm side up with the ring sitting on it. The ring was plain silver with etchings on it that were Enochian symbols. The symbols meant 'Sweet dreams'. She stared at it for a moment, then her eyes met mine "It's a dream ring" I told her. Truth was I had heard about this ring from one of my brother years ago, it was supposed to help with nightmares and I thought it would be great for Y/N as I sometimes had to leave her in the night and I didn't want her having anymore nightmares, if possible. I had found the ring a couple of days ago and had wanted to give it to her, but when Oliver had arrived, I hadn't found the right time.
I explained the ring to her and she snatched it up placing it on her right hand, finding the perfect fit on her ring finger. Holding it up she smiled, "I love it Castiel" she kissed me and I felt relieved that she would have that protection to help her when she slept and I couldn't be there. Like now, where I knew I had to leave, but at the same time I thought I should stay.
Getting out of bed I got dressed slowly, maybe hoping that I would reconsider what I was thinking of doing, but when I was dressed, I still hadn't changed my mind. I had to go there. I had to talk to him. Before I could change my mind, I flew from Y/N's room and I appeared in the room where the demon was still being held by Sam and Dean. He had been given a chair, which he was sitting in and my arrival had brought him back from his mind. The hazel eyes met mine and switched to black fast, "The angel returns" when I didn't say anything he continued, "Come to release me?"
"I have not" I stated matter-of-factly "I have come to ask-"
"My favourite topic, not" his eyes went back to hazel and he slumped down on the chair.
"You and Y/N were-" I paused as I didn't want to even think about them being together, talking about it was hurting my heart.
Oliver sat up suddenly looking interested in me as he searched my eyes and smiled wickedly, "You and Y/N? Really?"
"Our relationship is not your business"
"Max and I have been talking about Y/N. Some good memories. I remember that she does this-"
I didn't want to hear the demon talk about Y/N in the way he was so I just blurted out the question I had, hoping he heard and would answer, "You said you protected her against Max, why?"
Oliver lost his smile, getting to his feet he stepped to the edge of the trap and stared at me for a minute before he said, "Am I supposed to say that I cared? Maybe that I loved her?" He shook his head. "Nope. Didn't care about her really, still don't"
