Just friends?

Chapter 1 : Just as friends

"Do you have any money?"

"Hey whatever happened to 'Hey Sofie! You're my favorite sister!"

It's been a year. My whole world changed in a matter of 2 weeks. I was kidnapped and burdened with telekinetic powers. Nothing much has changed I suppose you could say. Will and I started going back to school after winter break last year. Things were a little weird, but I guess I could bear it. 

The biggest change I would say is that Mom was dating someone. Bob Newby. He went to high school with Mom and Hopper. Mom really likes him and that's all that matters to me.

He's really nice to us and he's good to Will, so I like him. It's just weird having an older guy around that's not Jonathan. 

"Well, do you?"

"Will."

"Sofie, may I borrow money please?"

"That's more like it." I rolled off of my bed and walked over to my desk. I had a few savings from my birthday, and I gave him 8 quarters. 

"That's it?" He asked. 

"William Byers, you be grateful that I am giving you anything." I ruffled his hair and pushed him out of my room. 

I walked over to my bed and laid down again. I was working on some math homework when my phone started ringing.

"Hello?"

"Hey Sof!"

"Hey Steve." 

"So um... are you up to hang out? Just you and me. Just as friends, of course!" He rushed. 

I hesitated and thought about it for a few seconds. This had been going on for a whole year. I still don't really know how to feel or act around Steve. I know how he feels about me, but I also can't forget the boy who screamed in my face and beat up my brother. I really wanted to be Steve's friend, but I still have feelings for him and I don't want to. It's just really complicated.

"I don't know, Steve. It's a little late."

"Sofie, you have to say yes."

"I don't have to do anything!" I laughed. 

"Yes you do. I'm going to pick you up right now."

"Stev-"

"See you in a few Sof." The call ended.

"Little shit." I cursed under my breath. 

I got up and hurried to fix myself a little. I wasn't really in the mood to go out tonight, but he was going to show up regardless. 

I ran out of my room and raced around the house trying to find Mom.

"Mom! Are you here?" I called out into the quiet house. 

I turned the corner and saw Mom and Bob. They were kissing.

"Ugh! Guys! My eyes! Come on!" I screeched as I quickly turned around.

"Calm down, Sof! Nothing was happening!" Mom laughed.

"Can I go out with Steve?" 

"Steve?"

"Yup." 

"I don't know, Sof."

"Come on, Joyce. The girl never goes out. Let her out of the dungeon for once." Bob laughed.

"Alright, just don't be home late and no funny business!" 

"Mom! Steve and I are just friends." I clarified and turned on my heel and walked into the living room.
