Steve's Pov

It was the next morning. I had gone to the store and bought as much beef chunks as they would sell me. I had filled two buckets. One for Henderson and one for me.

Last night we didn't find the damn little monster. Our running theory right now was that Dart had malted his skin or whatever it's called and gotten bigger. God, I just hope he's still small enough to kill it.

I was driving over to Henderson's house once again. If the little shit wasn't up, he's on his own. I still have to go and apologize to Sofie.

When I finally pulled up to Henderson's house he was already waiting for me outside on the porch. He looked like he was falling asleep so I decided to have a little fun. I pulled into the driveway as close as I could and started honking the horn. He jumped and looked around scared. I thought that shit was funny and I was laughing so bad.

He looked mad and rolled his eyes. He picked up his backpack from beside him and walked over to the car. He opened the door to the passenger seat and sat down.

"Good morning" I smiled at him.

"I hate you" He whispered and buckled his seat belt.

I let out another laugh and started pulling out of the driveway. I parked the car at the clearing behind Dustin's house. We rounded to the back of the car and started getting everything out.

I thought Dustin was helping me, but when I looked over he was...talking to himself? I'm not really sure, his back is to me.

He was speaking nonsense. I wasn't gonna wait for him to keep getting everything out with me, so I just kept going. I pulled out the two pairs of kitchen gloves Dustin had given me and I put them on. I put the other pair on Dustin's shoulder. I had already put the buckets on the ground in the dirt. I pulled out the small bin of gasoline, the bat, and a backpack. I put everything I had in the backpack and put the bat in last. I zipped it up as much as I could and slung the backpack over my shoulder.

"Just meet me and Steve at the old junkyard tonight." I heard Henderson say, still talking to himself.

"Alright Henderson, let's go." I said as I shut the trunk and bent down to grab my bucket.

Dustin was still facing away from me. I walked closer to him and hit the back of his knee. He almost fell, but I finally had his attention.

"Let's go!"

"I'm coming" He muttered under his breath.

We started walking through the woods and then came to the clearing where the old train tracks were. We started throwing chunks down every few steps. Making sure there was a clear trail for Dart to follow. In the meantime, I questioned the shit out of this kid.

"Alright, so let me get this straight. You kept something you knew was probably dangerous in order to impress a girl who...who you just met?" I asked Dustin as we walked down the tracks.

"Alright, that's grossly oversimplifying things."

"I mean, why would a girl like some nasty slug anyway?"

"An interdimensional slug? Because it's awesome."

"Well, even if she thought it was cool, which she didn't, I...I just...I don't know. I just feel like you're trying way too hard."

"Well, not everyone can have your perfect hair, alright?" Dustin mocked.

"It's not about the hair, man. The key with girls is just...just acting like you don't care."

There was a small pause of silence.

"Even if you do?" He asked softly.

"Yeah, exactly. It drives them nuts."

"Then what?"

"You just wait until, uh...until you feel it."

"Feel what?"

"It's like before it's gonna storm you know? You can't see it, but you can feel it, like this, uh...electricity, you know?"

"Oh, like in the electromagnetic field when the clouds in the atmosphere-"

"No, no, no, no, no. Like a...like a sexual electricity."

"Oh."

"You feel that and then you make your move."

"So that's when you kiss her?"

""No, whoa, whoa. Slow down, Romeo."

"Sorry."

"Sure, okay, some girls, yeah, they want you to be aggressive. You know, strong, hot and heavy, like a...I don't know, like a lion."

I looked over at Dustin and he was nodding his head.

"But others, you gotta be slow, you gotta be stealthy, like a...like a ninja."

"What type is Sofie?"

He kind of caught me off guard and I didn't really know what to say.

"Sof...Sofie is different. She's different than the other girls."

"Yeah, she seems pretty special, I guess. I have known her almost my whole life. That's way longer than you."

"Alright, calm down Henderson, and yeah, she is. She's special."

"But this girl's special, too, you know. It's just, like, something about her."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hey."

"What?"

"You're not falling in love with this girl, are you?"

"Uh, no. No."

"Okay, good. Don't."

"I won't."

"She's only gonna break your heart, and you're way too young for that shit." We both fell silent after that.

It was kind of awkward and Dustin looked like he wasn't very convinced yet. I sighed and leaned in closer to him.

"Fabergé."

"What?"

"It's Fabregé Organics" I repeated pointing at my hair. "Use the shampoo and conditioner, and when your hair's damp...It's not wet, okay? When it's damp...

"Damp."

"You do four puffs of the Farrah Fawcett spray."

"Farrah Fawcett spray?" Dustin started giggling.

"Yeah, Farrah Fawcett." I stopped walking and turned to Dustin. "You tell anyone I just told you that and your ass is grass. You're dead Henderson. Do you understand?" I threatened, pointing my finger in his face with a meat chunk hanging off of it.

He nodded his head quickly. "Yup"

I nodded my head also making sure he understood I wasn't playing around. I sighed and started walking again.

Dustin was quiet for a little and I knew he was dying to say something.

"Spit it out Henderson." I sighed.

"Farrah Fawcett, really?"

"I mean, She's hot."

"Does Sofie know?" He laughed.

"No, and you're not going to tell her." I threatened once again. If Sofie found out about this I would definitely never hear the end of it.

We just needed to kill this thing and get this all over with.
