Chapter 3 : Lab Day

Steve's Pov

My class was let out a little early today, so I waited for Sofie next to her locker. I actually wanted to scare her, but don't her I said that. 

When I heard the bell ring the hallways filled with chaos. People were shouting and rushing to get to class. I wasn't in a hurry and neither was Sof because we had a free period this period. I watched her from down the hall coming out of her class. I felt a smile break across my face, but it fell quickly after. She was laughing with some guy. It was the guy from the parking lot.

She's not your girlfriend

She's your friend

I watched them for a little longer. Then quickly realized her smile and laugh were fake. Thank god. I was about to lose my shit.

She walked over to her locker and opened it. I crept up from the side and waited for her to turn her back to me. I took a step forward and wrapped my arms around her waist. I lifted her up and spun her around. 

She shrieked and my laugh only grew louder.

"Steve! Put me down!" I set her down and she turned around and punched me in the gut. 

Damn, the girl can throw a punch. I was wearing sunglasses, so I couldn't really see the expression on her face clearly. But I bet it was great. 

"Take those stupid things off!" She tried to scold but started laughing.

I pulled them off and put them on her. She gave me a goofy smile and I gave her one back. Sofia Byers was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. She was absolutely beautiful. Inside and outside. 

"Steve? Steve!" Are you even listening to me?"

Shit. What did she say? "I was admiring you." I said slowly, but it sounded awkward. 

"That's weird. Do you want me to help you or not?"

"Oh, yeah. Yeah, I still need your help."

"Okay, what are we waiting for then?"

"What do you mean?"

"Steve, class already started." She laughed.

I looked around and she was right. The hallway was completely empty except for us.

"Sorry, um. Let's go." Why the hell am I nervous?!

We walked down the hall towards the library together. God, it was gonna be a long day.

Sofie's Pov

Steve was acting weird. Like, weirder than usual. Don't get me wrong, the dude is pretty weird, but he was acting different. With me at least. I was helping him rewrite his essay and things were going fine. He asked me for help every once in a while, but other than that we were just sitting together. 

I was studying for a test that I had in math later this week when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up and it wasn't Steve. 

"Hey Sof. Here's an invite for the party I'm having tomorrow." It was Tina. A girl in my grade. 

"Oh thanks." I smiled.

"Steve is invited as well." She smiled then walked away. 

I watched her walk away and then picked up the invite. 

"Come and get sheet faced." Steve read off of the invite. "Do you want to go?" He asked me with hopeful eyes. 

"I don't think so. It's Halloween. Will needs someone to go with him."
