Th internship

I tried to catch my breath as Tokoyami and me sat down on one of the couches in a lounge area in the big agency of the pro hero Hawks.
"You guys should get used to that." One sidekick said. He was wearing an all black suit except for one part on his head which was white. "We patrol every day, the time varies as to not be predictable for villains.
He sat down on another couch.

"Is there anything else that happens in the internship?" I asked between small gasps of breath.

"Ehm..." another sidekick thought before simply shrugging. I didn't know if he was trying to stay positive, or if he just didn't know.

The day ended after another patrol. I was grateful I could rest as I got on the train. Tokoyami traveled part way with me, so we discussed what we thought of it.

"So boring." I grumbled, "I wanted to learn more about defeating heroes and rescuing." Sighed I leaned back in the train seat, "At this point I'd even be grateful to be able to evacuate people."

Tokoyami nodded, "Same here, I'd have expected to learn more as well."

When I got home Aizawa had made dinner since I was home late.
"How was it." He asked as I grabbed a lot.

"The most tiring and useless I could imagine." I deadpanned. "We ran after Hawks all day, not getting to do anything else other than a few arrests."

Aizawa sighed, he had kinda warned me it might be like that, but then he said, "Find a way to challenge yourself, that's the best way to learn."

I ate the food, thinking about it, I could just try to gain the speed necessary to keep up with Hawks. I knew I wasn't that fast, but the sidekicks didn't need any help, so if I just kept running, tried using my quirk...

So the next day, I was fired up and ready to try my best. I knew I'd fail, but I could also try my best.
Tokoyami had a different attitude towards the internship as wel.
We stood in front of the exit, ready to head out at the very moment the agency started.
I grinned at Tokoyami, "I'm going to try and keep up with Hawks, you?"

Tokoyami nodded, "I doubt I'll be able to, but I'll try anyway."

Hawks ran past us and started flying, not stopping to say anything. The woman with schedule yelled after him, but soon just sighed.
"Ready?" One of the sidekicks asked. We nodded and so we headed out.

The fist villain was caught, a dangerous one, so they were already binded up and we simply ran past it, leaving it for the police to handle.
"This way!" One of the sidekicks hurried down the alley.

I looked up to find Hawks up in the sky. Gritting my teeth I jumped up and turned into a bird, the fastest one I knew.
"Oh, there she goes." One of the sidekicks said lamely as I flew off towards Hawks.
Even tough flying, I wasn't even nearing his speed.

After a while my wings threatened to collapse and I landed on top of Tokoyami's shoulder, only barely hanging on.
"You tried." Tokoyami sighed in disappointment as he ran on.

The next day I tried turning into a cheetah! I definitely scared a few people, but I ran as fast as I could. Of course I didn't near Hawks his speed. What would you expect? He's the fastest hero there is!

Day four I got a new plan.
The first patrol of the day started at noon, the sidekicks decided to train a bit, paperwork being done.
Apparently Hawks had a big room to work out or whatever, this one was used by sidekicks and everyone, or so had been told.

"Let's do some fights!" One of the sidekicks said, "I haven't seen you do a lot of hand to hand combat at the sports festival." He told Tokoyami.

We trained, I somehow managed to kick one of the sidekick's butt and then we had the usual lunch.
Soon after Hawks ran out of his office and flew up in the sky without a word to us.
Immediately I started running, I knew I could run all day, I could run as cheeta for three quarters of the patrolling and as bird I could hold on for half the patrolling. All I had to do was switch between them enough to be able to get the most speed.

As cheeta I closed some of the distance, then as bird, I managed to near the hero. I stayed close to the ground so I wouldn't waist energy trying to gain hight. When I got tired I turned back and ran as human, quickly losing the gathered speed while the distance grew.
I huffed in frustration as the sidekicks spotted me, I had lost that much speed, that quickly.
"It's cool that your trying, but are you sure you can handle it physically?" One of them asked me as he saw how tired I was.

"I'll be fine." I said, if I could handle Itsuki's bulshit, this should be easy.

Day five I decided to try the same thing, I got closer, but then had to give up as we stopped patrolling.
"Tomorrow I will be fast enough." I crossed my arms in determination.

That day on the walk from the train station to Aizawa's apartment I got the feeling of being watched.
Turning around, I didn't find anyone, I listened to hear nothing much more than the street noises and ended up ignoring it.

"Today's the day." I grinned at Tokoyami, "Let's try our best!" I attempted a fist bump only to get ignored.

I failed once more.
The next day ended up being useless as wel. I realised I was faster, able to dodge people quicker, but that was all it seemed I had learned.
Sighing I decided to keep trying to gain more speed, that seemed to be all I could do for now.
