Y/N's POV: After Leon helps me gather myself we continue on. The left side of the balcony that looked out to the lake, it broke out into a bunch of hand crafted wooden platforms tangled together between ropes and ladders. Messy, but it led into the water, and another small part of the village.
Leon turns around ever so often making sure I'm not breaking. Sometimes I feel so vulnerable around him. I know he never intentionally tries to make me feel weak though. I need his help whenever there is a big jump to the platform below us. He never hesitates to catch me or jump in front of me.
I drop down after him, letting him catch me like I weigh nothing. It's honestly impressing, but then again it's Leon. He gently puts me down before running off to search for things on the level we're on. I follow behind him keeping my hand on my pistol. His hair moves beautifully in the wind as he runs, his face is a stone of concentration.
He really is so breath taking.
After breaking a couple storage boxes he makes his way to the very bottom level, jumping to the ground. "Alright, ready?" He puts his gun away before opening his arms, readying to catch me.
"Uh, Yeah." I hesitantly sit on the edge of the wooden platform scooting until I slide off. I feel the cool breeze of the air before he catches me again, kneeling down to let me stand up stably. I push off of his knee pulling myself to my feet. It's not as scary after the first 2 times, but I mean you still can't really get used to it.
"You okay?" His eyes pause on me before he pulls out his gun, checking the chamber. "Yeah, fine." I watch him as he focuses on the pistol. His eyes dart back and forth as he checks it out, before making their way to me.
"Good. Doesn't seem like there's many people around here, just always be prepared for the worst" He gives me a nod, his tongue slightly touching his teeth anytime he speaks. I just can't stop focusing on him.
"Kay." I return the nod as I pull out my pistol as well, pulling myself away from his person. He moves in front taking his eyes off me as he moves. Where we are now leads to a doc by a lake.
I follow after him as he makes his way to a boat. Kneeling down, he checks it for gas. "Shit. It needs gas." He turns around giving me an annoyed look as he closes the lid again. His right arm rests perfectly on his bent knee, making his muscles glisten in the faint light.
He screws the cap back on, quickly taking a stand. His eyes bolt around behind me as he moves closer. "Anything you think might contain gas, grab it." He gives me a serious look as he moves back towards the village, searching every square.
----------------------------
Leon's POV: Eventually I was able to locate some gas for the boat. No matter what interaction we shared, I couldn't get mine and Y/N's previous conversation out of my head.
What did that even mean?
How did she take it? She calmed down after I talked to her... but what was even said to trigger it? Maybe she's just scared... but she's not alone with those feelings.
"Leon?"
Her sudden words break me away from the red gas can I had been disassociating on as we make our way back to the boat.
My face immediately turning to meet her soft worried expression. "Sorry. Just spaced out."
I turn back towards the can in my hand, we're almost back to the doc.
"Everything alright?" I could feel her eyes still on me, our hands brushed together ever once in a while as we walked. You could cut the tension between us with a knife.
"Yea." I turn back to her, her eyes instantly lock with mine. She really is so kind, just scared. I can see the hurt in them... her eyes. They've grown so cold yet can still make me feel so warm.
Every now and then the light will hit them just right, and I swear she glows.
Her lips are slightly parted as she swims in my pools of trauma and fear. I can't help but look at her. She really is just so pretty.
"I like your hair btw." I turn facing the doc we were now on.
"Really?" She grabs a piece of her hair twirling it in her fingers as a red tint moves to her face. Her lips sightly curled in at the ends, putting a cute grin on her face.
"Yeah, really." I turn towards her again one last time earning a smile. I kneel down by the boat filling it with the gas we had retrieved.
"I want you to stay here okay?" I turn to her, setting the empty gas can by me on the doc, readying to get in the boat.
"What? No way we're a team."
"That's an order. I'm protecting you." I shoot back, remembering what I had seen through the binoculars on the peer. What even was that thing?
"Leon. No you're being crazy! I'm going with you."
She attempts to make a move to get in the boat but I stop her, redirecting her attention to my face with my hand.
"You are staying. End of discussion. Just keep a look out back here. I don't think anyone will show up, but here's some extra ammo incase." I hand her a full box I had been hanging onto.
Her face irritated and worried at the same time.
"But-"
"Y/N we don't have much time. It needs to be done, you're staying whether you like it or not. Follow your orders."
A stern look grew on my face as I began to get impatient. I wish she would understand I'm just trying to protect her. She needs to do what i say.
Her face fell as she had given up trying to fight with me. Her brows now furrowed and fixated on the lower half of my body. There's that sensation again... the thick tension. The suffocation.
"Be careful." She said coldly as I loaded into the boat.
"You too Y/N."
