Y/n's POV: Ashley and I stayed together, silently horrified as we listened to the grunts and scarping of whatever was below us with Leon. Sometimes it was hard to make out who's grunting it was as we stayed as silent as we could.

Nothing but panic and danger ran through my head as we waited for Leon to reappear. Ashley clung to my arm almost in tears as we waited for what felt like forever. Every now and then silence would fill the two rooms we had stumbled into, even from below. That never felt like a good sign.

It was so quiet and still I could hear my own heart beat. When the clatter kept on down below I couldn't tell if I was supposed to feel optimistic or terrified. Either something was ripping Leon to shreds, or he was kicking around down there doing as much as he could. Which was what he always seemed to do.

From the moment I met him he was the most strong and optimistic guy. I just hope he's giving whatever he is facing hell.

The silence grew loud again. Louder than it was last time, and for longer too. I was panicking.

"Ashley I've gotta go in. I have to." I tried to wiggle my arm loose from her grip, but the more she panicked the tighter she held on.

"N-no Y/n, he's fine. He'll come back for us." I felt her nails curl into the flesh of my forearm, ignoring it so I could try to get her off.

The rattling of the metal door behind us grew louder than our babbling, causing Ashley to scream as she cowered behind me and my pointed handgun.

"Jesus Leon, it's you. What happened down there?" Ashley quickly stepped out from behind me as Leon waited for me to lower my hand gun to step a little closer.

His face was scratched, and had fresh blood smeared across his cheek.

"Nothing, just some animals cooped up." He avoided the question as he reloaded his guns.

"You okay Leon?" I scooted closer, licking my finger before wiping away the blood on his face.

"I'm okay. Sorry you girls had to be alone for a sec. I'm trying not to let that happen." He looked between Ashley and I wearing a sympathetic 'i'm sorry' on his face.

"I'm proud of you though. When I saw you with your gun out, I almost smiled. You've changed a lot from when we were back in Raccoon City. Your reflexes have gotten a lot better." His voice lightened as he spoke, and his hand lingered lightly on my back. It was nice.

My gut twisted in the best way hearing him compliment me. If you knew Leon, that was absolutely everything.

________

Before we knew it, we were out of that place and back to wandering the halls and rooms of the castle. Every now and then we'd find a surprise, whether it be a dead body or ammo, it was always something.

Ashley and I occasionally talked as we followed Leon. Leon said little to nothing as he focused heavily on the mission. He was very alert, and ofc I understood why.

The room we were currently in was beautiful. It had a big balcony and was filled with red carpet floors. The structure was a little weird, and the room kind of twisted in an odd way, but none the less it was pretty.

Leon led the way down the stairs being cautious as we were about to turn a corner.

An evil high pitched laugh erupted across the room, echoing  as it left the golden speakers at the end of the staircase. Leon ignored it, cautiously continuing to scout the room. Ashley and I followed, keeping our guard up.

"Salutations, Mr. Kennedy." The midget man from before had echoed through the speakers again.

"Are you ready to hand over the girl?" He asked, excitedly as if Leon's Answer had changed.

Leon stopped in his tracks, turning around as he exhaustedly took in Ashley and I.

"Not this guy again." He huffed pulling out his gun, and his eyes began to scan the room again.

"I've taken the liberty of preparing some entertainment for you." The more excited he got, the squeakier his voice sounded.

"Without further ado: the gallant knight protects the dear damsel in distress, and the princess fair!" My stomach dropped watching Leon look back towards me and Ashley again. He kept a cold exterior, but fear lingered in his eyes.

He kept moving though. He always did.

I sighed letting out an exaggerated gag. That guy really got under my fucking skin. And if he got under mind, I couldn't imagine how Leon was feeling.

Leon pushed another set of double doors open, leading the way hesitantly through them.
