Leon's POV: I pushed the corrupting thoughts to the back of my head as I stepped away from Y/N to take the call. After all, despite the tension and feelings between us, there was still a mission I had to finish.
"This is Roost. I've got some bad news, Condor One." Static grows a bit as I hear the girls giggle over the muffled talking in my ear. I shoot them a glare telling them to hush a little since the connection was already bad enough. The storm was getting worse by the minute.
"With the weather like this, the chopper can't make it's approach. Can you stand by until it clears." My heart drops a little thinking of having these two here longer. The chance of us getting out of here had just slipped from our grasp. It was way too dangerous.
"Negative. Too dangerous. We're gonna get out of here and find someplace safe." I signal to Ashley and Y/N to follow as I began walking along the path the the bridge led to.
"I'm sorry. I wish I could do more to help."
"Don't worry about it. We'll swim if we have to. Condor one out." I quickly hung up, looking over my shoulder to check on the girls again. They're fine so far and still giggling about what I presume happened earlier.
I brushed the hair out of my face before checking the rounds left in each of my guns, which of course made my caboose more chatty. I only wish I could see inside her mind. She was so interesting and the cop in me made me want to figure out every little detail about the case she is.
"What's gonna happen to me?" Ashley suddenly spoke up and asked as we began to pick up pace. Y/N stayed quiet, not wanting to know what her future could look like if we didn't make it in time. It only made my heart throb.
"Right now lets just focus on getting out of here." I brushed her off not wanting to worry either of them as we continued to pick up the pace. We were now on a wooden trail that leads around some rocks up hill. It had railing and spaced out woodwork around. It was odd but then again, nothing about this place wasn't.
"Yeah. Right." Ashley responded coldly before falling back to where Y/N was walking.
"Hey Leon. If it does get to be too late for me, I want you to focus on Ashley and get her to safety." Her voice began to crack as I slowed my pace to turn around to her. She avoided eye contact as Ashley gave a sympathetic look between us.
Her arms were displaying dark purple veins just like they had looked before. Shit. My heart sinks almost everytime I look at her. Countless questions soar through my head as my eyes take in her depressing sight. I have to focus.
I turn around avoiding what she had said. "I won't let it come to that so don't talk like that."
After a while we turned up in another part of the village, the rest of the trip was silent other than words of comfort and gossip being exchanged between the girls.
"Stay back a little." They followed my orders as Ashley got behind Y/N, who had taken out her pistol readying for action. Ashley was bigger than Y/N, but she didn't hesitate to protect her.
I approach a tool sitting on a shelf in a shed that was torn open to reveal most of the small space it had. Just before my eyes I watched as two chainsaws come through the wall almost as if it was on que. I use the wall as leverage to flip away from the chainsaws just before they cross each other's path to knock the rest of the wall out.
The wall falls to reveal two masked women with chainsaws in their hand and bloodied aprons spread across their bottom half. It was truly a sight from a night terror. The one closest to the tool picks it up before revving up her chainsaw.
"Sorry. Didn't realize that was yours." I say backing away and prepping a grenade. My comment phases neither one of them as they wobble unstably forward.
"I'm flattered but I'm a one lady type of guy." I crack a joke letting a smirk travel to my face as I watch the grenade blow on them. Villagers began pouring in surrounding Ashley, Y/N, and I. Y/N and I dodge around beginning to open fire.
Her skills had been getting better and improving the more combat we had to face. Not that it wasn't still scary, I'm just glad she was getting a feel and is able to protect herself. She wasn't the one to go down without a fight, well not the one I remember from Raccoon City.
Ashley had been mostly sticking to Y/N which of course she had gotten more confident with her gun and wasn't staying as close as I wanted her to be. But of course that wasn't the closest I wanted her either.
I push away my thoughts watching them carefully as I take down a couple villagers, dodging weapons being thrown as well. Some of the ones that would transform into mutants of course needed more then just a double tap, but other than that, the only overwhelming thing was the time and space between us.
After about fifteen minutes of fighting, Ashley had only been knocked down once and the villagers were coming to an end in this part. I was able to pick up some more resources along the way thankfully, we had been using a lot of ammo and if it didn't end soon I wasn't sure what we'd do.
We had stopped before a gate after escaping from the crazy assholes out for our blood.
"Everyone okay?" I asked looking over both of the girls. Ashley was nodding her head with an anxious expression and Y/N was holding her arm by her shoulder. She didn't answer.
"Y/N, hey what's wrong?" I move closer, keeping my eyes on hers. Her face winces but she just keeps pushing the pain off disregarding my questions.
"Nothing I'll be okay." She gives a fake smile before moving her gaze back to Ashley.
"Hey don't lie to me. Just show me your arm." I gently take her face in my hand moving her gaze back to my face, giving her a gentle reassuring look. Her face softens before she removes her hand. The minute she does her arm begins gushing blood revealing a huge gash.
"Holy shit." I quickly apply pressure, my hand covered almost her entire upper arm. She was small and frail but a tough one at that. The sudden warmth and pressure of my hand caused a whimper to leave her mouth as she bit her lip through the pain.
"What happened?" I question beginning to take out some herbs and bandages. Ashley helps ready the medical equipment in complete shock.
"I covered Ashley as she moved to you, it was when we had briefly gotten separated and one of the very last villagers left alive had swung at me from behind with an axe. I had turned just in time for it to only slash a chunk of my shoulder off before I took him out."
She spoke through her teeth as I removed my hand, applying some gauze to help soak and stop the blood. She was hurting and I was trying to be as gentle as I could.
Ashley looked away as I aided Y/N, her wound looked awful.
"Gonna burn Y/N." I gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead without thinking just out of instinct. I don't know what channeled it in me, but she needed the comfort. And that's all I wanted to do for her. I felt her breath release as my lips touched her head. Instant relief moving through her body before I pulled away.
I watched her jaw clench as I gently applied the herbs to her sensitive skin before wrapping her arm in a bandage, keeping the pressure there just enough to stop the bleeding but not cut off her circulation. "There you are." I kept my arm on her bandaged wound for a second longer, earning a pained smile from her as the meds started to kick in.
"You better be okay." Ashley turns around giving her a pouty face as she takes in her arm. Fresh blood was now soaking through the bandage.
"She will be." I smiled as she nodded in my direction. I could tell she was forcing a smile out. Her eyes were watery and her arms still filled with purple veins. My heart. I hate seeing her in so much pain.
Ashley pushed past me taking Y/N in her arms for a tight hug. "Leon, come on join. It's for memories and good luck!! Whenever you think it's too late or you want to give up, you can remember this moment." Ashley cried out squishing Y/N's cute face to hers with her hand.
I coughed covering a small chuckle as I moved in to hug the girls. Ashley kept her distance from me, keeping most of her hug channeled at Y/N, who had most of her hug towards me. I let my chin rest on the top of Y/N's head and shut my eyes taking in the feeling. Catching my breath. It was so nice to have a hug. Especially from her.
So. Nice.
