Y/N's POV: Hearing Leon's words, Ashley and I didn't hesitate as the ground beneath us began to crumble. We bolt across the unstable planks listening to Leon to struggle behind us. I grab his hand through anxiety and out of habit, jumping to the rock ledge the other end of the bridge was held up by.
Ashley had jumped before us and was already there. The ground had crumbled just as we clung to each other on the rock. Leon lets his eyes rest on Ashley and I looking us over to make sure we're okay. The man who was after us had gotten stuck on the other side of the bridge. Still standing, but unable to get us from there.
The sound of our panting filled the air as we sat for a minute to catch our breath. The adrenaline and anxiety was crazy just being in one part of this town.
"Close one." Leon says between breaths as he makes his way back to his feet. He offers me a hand, helping me up soon after. Ashley was already standing, just hunched over.
Leon looks around, analyzing our surroundings to form a plan. Things change so often I'm sure he's used to finding a way out. Or at least the Leon I remember. Ashley keeps her eyes on where the bridge once stood, probably taking in everything that is happening.
Leon starts to move towards another path planked in worn out wooden boards, checking and reloading his weapons as he does.
"Psst." I signal to Ashley which snaps her out of disassociation and back to Leon. I nod my head towards him as we follow close behind.
"Okay, listen. You two are the ones he's after. If we see him again, you run." He states firmly turning to make eye contact with me. His face is so stern it's almost scary. He wants me to know he's serious.
"Or what?" I ask pulling out my gun. A smirk comes to my face as I wave it around in the air, almost daring him to take it from me again.
"Don't test me Y/N. I will take it if it comes to that, stay mad at me as long as you want. If that's what it takes for you to listen to my orders and get home, then so be it." He breaks eye contact clenching his jaw as he finishes talking. I roll my eyes putting my gun back in my holster.
"W-What about you?" Ashley hesitantly asks from behind us, earning both of our attention. Leon looks back to me, thinking on what to say to her.
"I'll do my job." Leon's reply is short and cold. Nothing was said after that, and the walk was honestly peaceful and quiet. We needed a break from the chaos, but for some reason seeing no chaos made me feel anxious.
______________________
After about 10 minutes of walking we came across another part in the town. It was the same old standard village that we would stumble upon accept it seemed bigger. Ashley and I followed Leon where ever he went unless he said to do otherwise. So as he said, we followed orders.
"This barn is huge." Ashley coos taking in the huge barrels and storage boxes before Leon breaks them. "It is for such a small little place huh?"
Leon stays quiet, just listening to us as he climbs the stairs to get to the top part of the barn. I follow him and Ashley does me. I can't help but watch as he breaks open each barrel or storage bin. If he has a good find sometimes you can see his eyes light up. You can see hope.
He breaks the storage bin by where I'm standing finding some herbs, before crossing over to the other side to break those.
I jump at the sudden impact of something from outside smashing through the wall and right into Leon. A shriek leaves my mouth as I watch him topple to the bottom floor, heavy breathing and grunts leave his mouth as he takes in the man before him. This bastard just won't leave us alone.
"Leon!" Ashley screams as the man begins to approach him. Fear strides through my body sending a shockwave to my spine. His eyes, they're on us... and they're hungry. My eyes lock with the man, as he takes us in. I've never felt so much fear and disgust in my entire life, and that's saying something.
Leon ignores his pain, opening fire on the man which takes his attention off of Ashley and I. I finally feel like I can breathe again. The shooting only seems to piss him off more as he turns around to face him. Leon's hands and mouth are trembling as he struggles to stand. Fuck I hate this so much. I wish he'd let me help.
"Cease your pointless struggling. Abandon your body to the will of our god." His demonic voice alone is enough to make your skin crawl.
Leon struggles to hold his gun up, let alone himself as he shifts his weight on his legs.
"You're a shitty missionary, you know that?" He opens fire again, keeping a serious face as Ashley and I watch in horror. It's doing nothing and Leon needs to get out of there. He's cornered. I can feel the heat rush through my blood and my heart speed in my chest.
The man bends down picking up his hat that had been shot off by one of Leon's bullets, they even ricochet off of his skin. "Oh almighty! Grant me the strength to crush your enemies."
The man begins to inch towards Leon, who had lowered his gun to quickly scan the room while still keeping his eyes him.
"Son of a bitch." Leon runs off to a corner grabbing a red barrel that I assume has some sort of flammable in it.
"Y/N RUN!" He shouts as he tosses the barrel to the side out in front of him. I- I can't. I can't leave him. I-I know how to help... I freeze as a cold hand slips into mine. It's Ashley who was pulling me out of the barn just before a huge explosion is heard.
My heart drops to the pit of my stomach, and the world was completely silent as we're pushed to the ground by the force from the blow. A slight ring fills my ears but I don't care. My arm and knees burn but I don't care. Leon... was in there.
I sat in shambles on the ground as I watched the place go up in flames. I don't even know if he is alive... and that hurt so bad to think about. I just wanted to help, maybe if I would've stayed...? No Y/N the outcome would've been the same.
I got up and scrambled around as Ashley and I stood outside the burning building. My mind was eating me alive and if my heart kept racing at this pace I was sure to have a heart attack. Ashley kept trying to reassure me, but my mind won't go anywhere else accept for that damn building that he just had to be in.
If he's gone, I don't know how I'm going to live with myself. He can't be gone. I felt tears brim the edge of my eyes as I continued to pace and chew on my bottom lip.
"Ashley, I want to go in there. I know it's stupid and if he's alive then I'm definitely getting my gun taken, but you know what...? If it can save his life then he can be mad at me forever." She gives me a worried expression but nods her head, looking around for something she could use to break a window to get into the burning building.
Flames swallow the window but Ashley holds a chair close to it, readying to break it. With a quick jab of a chair leg to the window, the flames were soon able to see through.
"W-what?" I mumble watching the man in front of me look around. A corpse lies on the ground, being eaten by the heat as that familiar man you've grown to adore stands just on the other side of the window.
