Chapter 6

I just sat there, i didn't know what to say. In the corner, a small figure was crouched on his left knee, his right elbow poised on the other. His back was resting on the wall next to the now blinded window, close to the door. I had only just woken, so i am allowed my privacy. He was dressed in a black shirt, the top 2 buttons opened revealing his chest. His trousers were tight fitting and he had well shined shoes. His hair is what gave him away. He had chocolate brown hair, just like the man in my dream. I stared at him for a moment, my jaw dropped. I know the nurse said i could hallucinate but i can tell you know drugs dont work that quickly! I knew it was real. He smirked at me, and stood up slowly.

"Hello Veronica, it's about time we met," he told me. He sat back in the chair next to my bed, "This has been empty for quite some time, hasn't it?". All I could do was nod. I couldn't speak through shock. I sat up awkwardly. He could see I was nervous.

"What's going on?" i asked.

"Well Veronica, you know who I am," he stated, "But I am not a figure of your imagination. You saw me in your dreams because I wanted you to." I was so confused.

"You influenced my dreams? How?" I inquired. At that moment the nurse walked back in. I smiled at her and she walked back out again. Why didn't she notice the man? Maybe he is a figment of my imagination. Yes, it has to be the drugs.

"Why couldn't she see you?" i questioned him.

"Because only the chosen ones can see us," he responded.

"Us?" i replied, "What do you mean us?"

"I am not human," he told me in a calm manner, "And you are a chosen one".

"Then what are you, and why was i chosen?" i stuttered.

"Because you were mistreated," he informed me. "Your parents left you here after your diagnosis, and haven't returned, have they? You were mistreated, and i am here to help".

"You didn't answer my question," i stated, "What are you?" i asked sternly.

"How can you help, I'm just a lousy teenager who has no education or family to love me," i snarled. I turned away from the man, who i felt so close to from our shared torment in my nightmares yet so distant. Tears began to roll down my cheeks. I heard footsteps around the bed and the man stood in front of me. I looked down in embarassment. He crouched and held my face, wiping away my tears.

"I have been watching you for a long time, i know you. People like you shouldn't suffer, so i'm going to stop it," he reassured me. I managed to mumble a few words of thanks before he gave me a beaming smile, one I hadn't seen for 3 years, and that's when I realised.
