Chapter 8

I was pacing in the waiting area. My ward was almost ready, the psychiatric ward. If I got in there I'd have a minimum of 60 eyes on me at one time alone. I'll have no chance to escape then. It has to be now... Right now. I sat down on the soft, leather covered blue chair that lined the ward. Just down the corridor was the entrance to little public garden for patients. I was fidgety. Where was he? We needed to leave. I had made my decision. I decided to call my friends since I was getting out of the 'bubble' as I liked to call it. None of them turned up. I informed my nurse that I had called them and I expected them. I set up the meeting with them yesterday at 11am. I waited... and waited. That's how I decided. My 'friends' were the only people left around here to care about me, and they made their views clear. I've just realised, I don't know his name, but he seems to be the only person to care about me. That's why I am going. I may not be able to return, but what is there to come back to?

In the distance a clattering occured and the man fell out of the supplies closet opposite me.

"That door always opening by itself," one nurse complained. I couldn't help but laugh. The man became alarmed and put his finger to his pursed lips. Oh yeah, no talking, i reminded myself. He stood next to me, panting for breath.

"Right, if you can hear me, get up and get a drink from the water cooler, take two sips and sit down again," he instructed me. I followed his every word and listened out again.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked, "Cough if you are". I coughed loudly into the silent waiting area.

"Okay, we have to do it out of sight and in an open area. Any ideas?" he asked. I responded by getting up and looking out of the window.

"You genious," he yelled. I turned to a nurse.

"I'm just going out for some fresh air for two minutes, I informed her. She nodded and I headed towards the door. I was nervous now. The man was following faithfully at my heels as i pushed the white door open enough for us both to fit through undetected. I couldn't help but enjoy the warmth of the Sun, being locked up in there for so long. I gently rubbed my skin taking in all the heat left before i leave here for good. I looked into the window to see who was watching, and calculated where we would be out of sight. I walked towards the daffodill flowerbed and began to admire the daffodills. I adjusted the placement of a small bunch.

"Here we are," i muttered. My crappy subtle attempt to communicate.

"Miss White," a female viice called over. I felt my heart leap in my chest.

"Get rid of her," the man exclaimed. I turned around.

"We are ready for you," she yelled.

"One minute," i called back. My voice was shaky. She nodded and paced back into the building. The man wrapped his arms around my body and whispered in my ear:

"You may suffer a few side effects but I'll assume you don't care". I nodded and was engulfed by darkness, leaving my previous life behind forever, a fresh start.
