Chapter 18

The Moon had fully risen now. It must have been about 2:30am. Will and myself had come out of the meeting an hour ago, where it was decided I was to be trained to defend myself. The alarm Rheynold had given me dug into my skin in my trouser pocket. After the meeting I decided to change for both training and generally for good measure, in case Rory did return without notice. Will and I were in the living room, having just eaten our breakfast about half an hour ago. We were both sat on tbe sofa, discussing our options.

"So, Father suggested you learn to use a barostaff, do you know what one of them is?" Will asked. I glared at him and shrugged my shoulders.

"Nope," I answered confused.

"Okay, follow me," Will replied. He stood up off the sofa and offered his hand. I stood up to my feet and trotted at his heels until we entered the corridor leading towards the dining room.

I remembered the day I arrived, walking down the corridor with Rory, arms linked and my hand resting on his bicep. The memory suddenly consumed all my thoughts. I felt weak. I stopped and steadied myself on the banister. I felt breathless. I closed my eyes and convulsed as flashbacks of the attack overtook my body. I sunk down to the floor and lay down, on the ground. I curled up in a ball, re-living the moments when Rory bit me. My eyes remained closed as sweat ran cold down my back. I stared at the same spot on the wall as Rory's face illuminated in front of me. His laugh echoed throughout my ears. I shut my eyes in fear.

"GO AWAY!" I yelled as loud as I could. I covered my ears wishing for no reply. I cradled my head in an attempt to shut out all reality and his voice in my head. A pair of hands ran down my side and my hands were removed from my ears.

"Ronnie, calm down, you need to look at me," Will instructed me. Something held my eyelids down like glue, I attempted to open my eyes but my body didn't respond.

"I can't," I whimpered back, "What's happening?"

Shhh, it's okay," Will replied. He stroked my face gently.

"LEAVE ME ALONE," my voice gravelled. It wasn't me. Something else had taken over. My eyes were pierced shut as I tried to overpower the force inside my body. My arm outstretched and grabbed the neck of Will's shirt. I bit my tongue preventing myself from speaking, but this was short lived.

"Mine, mine," I growled, "She's mine". I was still shaking in fear as he opened my left eye slowly. The sight of Will calmed me, I felt I was safe. My heartbeat slowed and I felt calmer. Will placed his left hand on my chest and felt my heartbeat slow. He smiled as I began to calm down. Visions of Rory tormented me once more. I felt like I wanted to climb out of my shell, writhing in agony in my own skin. I shrieked at the sudden pain that wrenched in my soul. I could distantly hear Will trying to calm me, but his voice was fading. Despite this, he must have yelled at the top of his lungs because I heard him call another male distinctly.

"Byran!" he yelled. My eyes shot open. They were glaring at Will without breaking contact. I begged to obtain control over my own body as all became far too distant. I watched as my own two hands attempted to claw at Will, who to my relief caught my wrists and held them firmly. Who I assumed was Bryan had arrived and knelt the other side of my body. I somewhat felt detached from myself, merely an observer as to the situation.

"She's not to far gone is she?" Will asked teary eyed. His voice was a distant murmur but thankfully I could lip-read. Bryan shook his head. I felt like I hadn't blinked in a decade. My eyes were burning as they needed moisture. The rest of my body was writhing, trying to free myself from the beast inside. Bryan touched my temples lightly with two fingers, before I shook free of his grip uncontrollably.
