Chapter 9

I was suddenly made aware of how dark it was. I attempted to open my eyes when I heard a female voice.

"She's waking," the small voice stated. The faint sound of footsteps gradually grew louder. I turned my head towards the noise and felt a cold flannel pressed to my head. My eyes flickered trying to focus on what was around me when i felt somebody sit next to me on what I presumed was a bed. I could only see the undefined figures of about four people. They were all dressed in black, three of which had white on their skirts. They must have been maids of some sort. The other had a red tie around his neck, which I recognised to be the man who brought me here. Slowly, the picture of my surroundings became more defined and I attempted to sit up. The man helped me to sit up and stroked my cheek. I rubbed my face feeling my flushed cheeks.

"Are you okay?" the man asked. "My name is Rory by the way," he added.

"Yes I am okay," I stuttered. "What time is it?"

"Half past five," Rory replied, "We got here four hours ago and you've been out cold since".

"Oh," I muttered. I tried to stand up, however I was shaky. Rory supported me and caught me when I was about to fall.

"Take your time," he told me. He addressed the maids with a small nod and they left the room.

"Dinner will be ready in a few minutes, why don't you get changed?" he suggested. He directed his hand towards a massive, wooden wardrobe. I slowly stepped forward towards the wardrobe and opened the doors into a vast space filled with clothes. I picked out a black knee high dress and turned around. Rory approved and walked towards the door.

"Everybody will be waiting downstairs for us, so I'll leave you to get changed," he told me, and then, he gently closed the door. I pulled of the hoodie I had been wearing and my neon pink t shirt followed. I pulled the dress over my head and my black faded jeans fell to the floor. I picked up my clothes and folded them and placed them on the chair in the corner of the room. I picked up a pair of black flats and placed them over my feet. I observed my appearance in the full mirror before opening the door. Ther stood Rory with his back against the wall to my right. He saw me and stood upright, his smile beaming at me. He walked towards me and took my arm. He looked at me and smiled once again before leading me down the stairs. I somewhat felt like I had met my prince and he was escorting me to meet the family. My heart pounded in my chest as we walked down the ornate staircase. I followed Rory as he lead me down a long corridor when we turned to our left and approached the double doors in front of us. My heart began to pound more violently. Rory stopped us and looked at me once more.

"You ready?" he asked.
