On Sunday, most of the group took some time to relax and mentally prepare for what lay ahead on Monday. Normally, the Guerrillas would take more time to plan their next mission, especially when it involved surveilling a target.
Some were already feeling the nerves, knowing that tonight was the night when the tracking devices would be attached to their potential victims.
That's why Yunho and Mingi found themselves standing in front of a large building late that evening, a place that brought back nostalgic memories. It was dark, but a light still shone in a room on the third floor.
This was the elementary school they had both attended years ago.
Inside, their old chemistry teacher, Eden, was supposed to be. According to their memories, Eden had developed a habit of staying late after classes to prepare for the next day's lessons.
Both of them were dressed in blue facility management overalls, which Seungmin and a few others had managed to procure from somewhere. Jisung had given them a modified access card, allowing the two young men to enter the school and various rooms within.
"Do you have the card?" Mingi asked, glancing at his partner. "You're asking that a bit late," Yunho replied with a sarcastic laugh, reaching into his pocket. When his fingers found the white plastic card, he pulled it out and held it up in front of Mingi's face as if it were a key to paradise. "I just wanted to be sure," Mingi said, grinning sheepishly as he pulled down the brim of his janitor's uniform cap to hide his embarrassed expression.
However, it was too dark outside for Yunho to make out his facial features, which still elicited a slight smile from him. Quickly, the older one shook his head, as if trying to shake off the personal connection with Mingi, allowing him to focus entirely on the mission at hand. With the chip, Yunho found missions easier to handle. While this particular task was relatively simple, he found it easier to avoid distractions like thoughts of Mingi. There was also J.Y. Park's master plan and the constant pressure of staying hidden... In other words, Yunho's head was close to bursting.
"Let's go," Mingi snapped Yunho out of his thoughts, snatched the white card from his hand and strode ahead, forcing Yunho to quickly chase after him. "Wait. The gloves," Yunho warned. They couldn't afford to leave fingerprints in the school.
Quickly they put on their gloves, ready to finally start the mission. Mingi used the card to unlock the door with a soft beep and the two Guerillas entered the school. A motion sensor triggered the lights in the hallway, casting an eerie, quiet and unsettling atmosphere over everything. The fact that only the two of them and their potential target were in the building made the mood strangely tense. Despite the lights, the corridor felt dark and ominous. It was so silent you could hear a pin drop.
"Here," Yunho said, having meticulously studied the school's blueprint back at the bunker, guiding them to the janitor's closet without any issues. Once again, Mingi used the card to open the door. As planned, the younger one grabbed a cleaning cart and as swiftly as they had entered, they left the room. Their black work boots echoed down the hall, while the cart's wheels let out a faint squeak with every rotation.
"How are the others doing?" Mingi whispered to Yunho as they stopped in front of a staff elevator. Just like the last two times, the younger one held the card to the reader beside the elevator button. The elevator lit up briefly and the soft hum of cables was heard as the elevator made its way down to their level.
