It wasn't long before the next day arrived. Yeosang, Felix, Jisung, Yunho and Hongjoong were currently a little away from District 9 on a hill hidden behind some old ruins of an old factory. It was cold and everyone had put on thick clothes: The motto here was "layering", as Chan's group didn't have many warm clothes. In addition, Hongjoong's group had not thought to bring their own clothes because of the break-in and the panic. As a result, the guerrillas had to keep warm with various sweaters, hoodies and longsleeves.
Everyone except Yeosang was staring at the laptop, which was connected to the drone and projecting a live image feed onto it. Yeosang himself had a small screen on his remote control and stood a little further away from them.
"Is that a small manmade forest? It could serve us well as cover," Felix asked thoughtfully, which is why Yeosang zoomed in closer with the camera. "Exactly! Because of the Green political party, plants, trees and bushes had to be planted everywhere if possible. So we have enough cover!" Jisung quickly added.
"But the guard towers and the huge, thick stone walls kind of worry me," Felix admitted thoughtfully, rubbing his red, runny nose for a moment. "There's no clever way to break in. Unless we disguise ourselves as employees and calmly waltz past the porter," Felix added ironically.
"We can also climb over the wall. On our last mission at the KQ chip monitoring centre, we climbed into the building with grappling guns," Yeosang suggested, looking back at his members briefly.
"What about the guard towers?" asked Jisung thoughtfully. "Yeosang, can you fly a little closer to the watchtowers again," Yunho asked him straight away, whereupon the younger man immediately followed his request silently.
"Right there! We can observe when the guards change their view. If we keep that in mind, we could use this fact to our advantage," Yunho explained his idea, causing everyone to nod in confirmation and keep their eyes glued to the screen. There was silence for a few minutes and when the guards changed position and lined up next to the towers in the corner, Hongjoong started the timer. Only when they started moving again did he look at his watch again and immediately said, "Wow, seven minutes. That's not extremely long," he admitted, pondering and playing with a loose lock of blonde hair.
"But we still have the option of hacking into the surveillance system. The idea was that we wanted to deactivate the cameras. With a certain key code, it would be possible to connect to the server. But with a network as large as District 9, you could only hack the camera for a maximum of ten minutes before someone gets wind of it. That's why this is only possible once and on the mission day only. However, we should still consider this idea," said Jisung, looking at the screen in front of him as he pressed on his thermal pad to absorb some heat energy.
"Let's say we manage to deactivate the cameras on the mission day. Then we'd have ten minutes to climb over the wall, get into one of the watchtowers and take out a guard without being noticed. Then we go down the watchtower, reach the backyard and have to split up into three groups: Liberation Team, Information Team and Bomb Team. We all know where the main building is. But what do we do with the liberation team? If we're out of luck, they'll be in the wrong building and completely at the mercy of District 9," the blond continued, still slightly worried about the plan.
"The only thing I can remember from my time as a prisoner was being in Building One. I think that's where most of us were, but can we be sure that it's still like that today?" Hongjoong now began to twirl a strand of black hair between his fingers thoughtfully. "Or do the ex-agents have an exclusion procedure in which the two of you definitely can't stay in the building? After all, you were there until recently," Yeosang spoke up and quickly turned his attention to the two ex-agents.
"No, unfortunately not. At work, we mostly stayed outside District 9. But building one would be a good possibility, but the size of the facility is much smaller than the others..." Yunho mused. "The prisoner tracks are underground," Hongjoong explained briefly and smiled snappishly. But it was more of an uncertain, oppressive grin, which came across a little cheekier due to his tone.
"What if they have changed the whereabouts of the deviants?" Now Felix was also sceptical. He wanted to be 100% sure when it came to something as big as District 9. "J.Y. Park only said at our first meeting that they were working diligently on their security systems, but not about any restructuring or concrete renovations of the prison wings. So unfortunately I can't confirm whether any transfers have taken place," Yunho replied.
"Damn," Hongjoong muttered, biting his lower lip thoughtfully. It was quiet for a moment. Yunho pulled his borrowed fleece jacket from Seungmin tighter around him as a cool autumn breeze blew. Although the jacket was a little short, the rest of his clothes were even shorter, so he had to make do with this one.
"How long have we been here anyway?" thought Felix, glancing at the bottom right-hand corner of the laptop. It was 02:30 p.m., they had taken up position almost three hours ago and were observing the situation. However, the men had neither a concrete plan nor much enthusiasm and the cold conditions were really getting to them.
"Can I have the thermal pad too? My fingers are about to fly off," Hongjoong snapped Jisung out of his thoughts as he threw a long piece of fabric from his grey scarf over his shoulder. "Uhm yeah sure, here." He leaned over to the captain to give him the hand warmer and then pulled his trapper's cap lower over his ears, as he was still quite cold himself.
"YA! YA! YA!" Felix suddenly drew the men's attention to himself, took off his mittens and eagerly pointed his finger at the screen. "Yeo, fly a little further away again. Someone is running out of the first building right now, isn't there?"
"All right," Yeosang replied and flew higher, pointing the camera at the exit from building one. Sure enough, two people just ran out, causing the five of them to gasp in shock. Hongjoong and Yeosang were rather shocked to see J.Y. Park again. The others, on the other hand, swallowed hard when they recognized Agent Seonghwa with scratches next to him.
For the guerrillas, it caused an oppressive feeling in their stomachs when they saw J.Y. Park calmly walking towards the main building. This man who had made their lives hell.
"Have you ever been to the first building?" Yeosang asked immediately, looking back at the four of them. "No, not yet," Jisung admitted and suddenly there was a tense atmosphere between them. "Who's the other man next to J.Y. Park? The fourth agent?" Felix suddenly asked. "Park Seonghwa, the leader of our squad. Also the nephew of J.Y. Park. He seems different somehow..." Yunho said, his eyes fixed on the screen as he scrutinized the agent. But he quickly remembered Jisung's story about the lamp that had fallen on Seonghwa. That was where those scratches had come from.
"The fucking nephew!" Yeosang blurted out in disbelief but then tried to concentrate on operating the drone again. "Shit, as if they're related. Have an uncle like him? I could do without that." Hongjoong shook his head in amazement.
"What's Seonghwa holding in his hand? Can you zoom in, please?" Felix changed the subject in a flash. As before, Yeosang accepted the request and zoomed in on the rectangular thing that the black-haired suit man was holding. "A folder? Documents?" Felix murmured thoughtfully. Everyone tilted their heads slightly and tried to decipher what was written on the beige folder. "S..." Felix began. "Seo... Seo Changbin?" continued Jisung. "Is that Binnie's file?" Yeosang immediately inquired. "Indeed it is. The files we received at the beginning of the mission looked exactly like this. It seems he has several in his hand. Wooyoung's and maybe a new one from Minho," Yunho rattled off the words and before they knew it, the two disappeared into the main building.
"Now the only question is whether they've come from the prisoner track," Hongjoong asked the most important question. "Surely building one is our bullseye!" Felix was dead certain of his statement and looked into the faces of the others.
Emotions were now mixed, some exhaled uncertainly. Jisung even grinned faintly with relief that they had some idea where Minho and the other guerrillas might be. Yeosang turned his head back to the others. "Then all we need is a plan on how to break into building number one and the main building."
