The next morning, Wooyoung was the first to wake up. Outside the door, the murmurs and footsteps of the other Guerrillas could be heard, but no one seemed to have entered the sickroom or had any intention of doing so.
Either Yeosang hadn't told them that San was awake, or he had explicitly forbidden them from coming in.
Wooyoung glanced up at San's face, which bore a peaceful expression. Well, just if you overlooked the white bandage over his right eye.
Carefully, not wanting to wake the other, Wooyoung traced the contours of San's face with his fingers. His jawline, eyebrows, cheeks, nose, and lips.
Ever since Wooyoung had been coldly abandoned by his friends in District 9, he had never been this close to San again. The anger from the betrayal had been too great. But now, he was savoring this closeness.
San's left eyelid began to twitch, a sign that he was about to wake up. Wooyoung quickly pretended to be asleep again. He wasn't exactly sure why he did that.
He felt San shift slightly, repositioning his arms to get more comfortable. Wooyoung also felt San pull him closer, gently running a hand through his hair. If he wasn't mistaken, San's heartbeat seemed to quicken, which brought a small smile to Wooyoung's lips.
He decided it was time to 'wake up' too and let out a hearty yawn as he slowly opened his eyes. "Good morning," San mumbled sleepily. "Good morning," Wooyoung replied just as drowsily. Mentally, Wooyoung patted himself on the back for his outstanding acting skills. "Did you sleep well?" Wooyoung asked San, pulling away slightly to get a better look at him. San just nodded grumpily and pulled the younger one back to him.
They remained in this position, neither of them showing any intention of letting go of the other. However, the tranquility was soon interrupted by a soft knock, and Yeosang entered the room without waiting another second. "Good morning, how's our patient?" he asked, seemingly about to do another check-up, which made Wooyoung reluctantly pull away from San.
"The foggy head and the pain are practically gone," San explained, grinning encouragingly as he sat up while Yeosang checked the IV. "The fog was from the meds. You seemed pretty high yesterday," Yeosang chuckled. "High?"
"Yeah, well... actually, you're still clinging to Wooyoung this morning, so maybe it wasn't the meds after all," he laughed. "But in that case, we can remove the IV," Yeosang added, immediately getting to work on removing the tubes from San's hand before placing a bandage on it.
"Breakfast is ready. Minho, the ex-agent and Felix cooked something delicious. After that, I'll change your bandage," Yeosang explained. "Yes, please! This thing over my eye is annoying; I'd like to see again," San said, finally getting up. Yeosang didn't respond to that, pretending he hadn't heard and left the sickroom.
Surprisingly, San quickly adapted to standing and followed Wooyoung out into the hallway and straight into the living room. "Hey guys, I have a surprise!" Yeosang announced as he was the first to enter the living room and take a seat at the dining table. "Have you finally... SAN!" Mingi began ironically but then widened his eyes in surprise as San and Wooyoung entered.
He immediately jumped from his chair and engulfed San in a big hug, followed by Hyunjin and Jeongin doing the same. "Guys, let him breathe," Hongjoong laughed, but soon stood up and hugged San as well. After some time, they all sat down and started eating while chatting happily.
