Minho squeezed his eyes shut in pain and hissed sharply. His whole body tensed and he tried to move as little as possible as he lay on his stomach in his prison bed. Beads of sweat ran down his forehead and his hands clutched at the white sheet beneath him. A muffled moan escaped his lips as the pain intensified again.
"It'll be over in a minute," said the in-house doctor in a monotone as she disinfected and re-bandaged both bullet wounds on Minho's legs. The burning pain did indeed subside after a while and all that remained was a dull throbbing, which had been constantly present before. "Done, you're welcome to sit down again," the woman explained, finally pulling down the white trouser leg of Minho's prison clothes and letting go of him.
Without saying thank you, the ex-agent slowly sat up, moving his right leg as little as possible. Annoyed, he placed the pillow against the head of the bed and shook it before letting himself fall against it with a sigh.
The doctor said goodbye to the ex-agent in an overly friendly manner, but even then Minho made no effort to communicate with her or anyone else from District 9. He was too pissed off about the shitty situation he was currently in. He breathed in and out deeply, closed his eyes and tried to control his anger. It was no use wasting his energy on anger here.
Shortly afterwards, Minho was alone again in the cells with his thoughts.
He didn't know how much time had passed since he was shot and taken to District 9 by Seonghwa. He had no window or anything like that to tell whether it was day or night. The artificial light in this institution remained the same brightness all the time as if they wanted the inmates to lose all sense of time.
However, there were times when many more people were walking around in the corridors and others when you could hardly see anyone. This realization and the fact that this was only the second time his bandage had been changed led Minho to conclude that about three days had passed so far.
But it could also be considerably more, as he wasn't sure how long he had been sleeping. The food is also not regular and it was always the same unappetizing food.
So far, Minho has been lucky enough to be left alone by Seonghwa and J.Y. Park for the most part. Whether this was because he was injured or possibly to increase his willingness to cooperate, Minho didn't want to decide yet. Why didn't they just give him a chip so Seonghwa wouldn't have to work alone anymore? Minho had no contact with the guerrillas anyway, so why was he in the cell? Maybe it was because he was a lamp to Seonghwa's face and it had hurt his and his uncle's pride.
"Ugh, this guy is completely crazy anyway," Minho thought as he thought about his leg and the fact that a harmless chip carrier like Seonghwa was able to act so radically. Even a few days before the incident and now the agent didn't seem like an ordinary citizen, somehow like a different person. So aggressive, which was not normal for a chip carrier.
Confused, Minho shook his head and tried to push the thoughts aside. Instead, he thought of the two prisoners who had often been led away or brought back past his cell in the last few days. Either with a guard or with Seonghwa himself. Both matched the guerrilla descriptions he had been given at the time. The nicknames they called each other from time to time confirmed his suspicion that the two people were Jung Wooyoung and Seo Changbin.
However, both had probably been placed a little further away from him on purpose to avoid any possible contact.
Suddenly, Minho heard a throat clearing, causing him to open his eyes again and look towards the plexiglass wall. Behind it stood his former work colleague Seonghwa, who was looking at him irritably for some reason. Speak of the devil... what did he want again or why was his face contorted into such an annoyed expression?
