There was something different about him today. Gunwook took several glances back and forth, making sure not to forget the guy he was guarding, while he dissected the boys strange behavior. He didn't have that usual beaming smile as he stared through the wire fence, his lips not even quirking up when Gyuvin scored a three pointer. Instead, he seemed jittery, bouncing up and down on his heels, his hands shaking against the fence. Gunwook couldn't understand it, he came here every weekend to watch his crush play basketball, but he never appeared this nervous before.
"Gunwook!" He snaps his head towards Gyuvin, immediately catching the ball thrown his way. He dribbles it down the court, until he finds himself blocked, throwing the ball to one of his teammates for them to deal with.
Turning back to the fence, a thought pops into his mind that makes his heart sink. What if he's here to confess? It had been six months since he started coming here, maybe he was ready to tell Gyuvin about his feelings. Gunwook couldn't let that happen, not when he had been crushing on Gyuvin for years now. They had been on the same local basketball team from the age of eight, if anyone deserved to be with Gyuvin, it was him. I mean, he liked him for way longer, it's only fair.
Knowing his practice was nearing it's end, Gunwook thinks up a plan. He needed to speak with this boy, tell him to back off; that was the only way he could stop this confession from happening.
Once practice was over, Gunwook didn't bother to shower or change his clothes. "I've got a doctors appointment." He tells his teammates, rushing out of the building as quick as possible. The second he steps out the door, he sees the boy, standing there with a poster board sign in his hands. The boy looks a bit flustered, probably scared it was Gyuvin who was coming out. Gunwook reads over the sign.
'You're the best player on the court, but I wonder what you're like on the dance floor...Let's go to prom together and find out'
His eyes widen, and without any thought, he smacks the board out of the boys hands, with so much force it splits it in two. He didn't mean to break it, he just panicked, and immediately felt bad for what he did.
"Why would you do that?!" The boy snaps, his voice a mix of confused and devastated.
"I uh-" He scratches his nape, unsure of what the plan was now. He talked a big game in his head, but now he was in front of the boy, it wasn't as easy to be mean. "I know you have a crush on Gyuvin, but he's mine."
The boy furrows his brows. "Who even are you?"
Gunwook was kind of taken a back by that question, how had this boy been coming to their practice for six months and not know who he was? "I'm Park Gunwook, I play on this team." He gestures to his red branded jersey and shorts.
"Well thanks for ruining my sign!" The boy shouts, with venomous sarcasm. He kneels down to pick up the broken sign. "I worked really hard on this..."
A wave of guilt washed over Gunwook. He knew it was an accident, but seeing how sad the boy was, looking down at his broken sign, he couldn't help but feel like an asshole.
"Oh hi Taerae." As Gyuvin's voice fills their ears, the boy is quick to hide the sign behind his back. "You're still here Gunwook?"
"Uh yeah- I was about to leave."
"Okay, see you next weekend." Gyuvin smiles. "And I'll see you at school Taerae." He heads off carelessly down the street.
Gunwook got a bit distracted trying to process all the information he now knew. This boy, Taerae, must go to school with Gyuvin. How long had they known each other? How many classes did they have together? Gunwook only saw Gyuvin once a week, but Taerae got to see him almost everyday. He felt extremely jelous.
