"You set up a dating profile for me?!" Matthew stares across at his friends in horror, dropping his fork into his Caesar salad, he swallows down the last little bit of lettuce in his mouth. "Please tell me you're joking."
"Oh come on, we're your friends, we only want what's best for you." Jiwoong replies, abandoning his lunch, to join Matthew on the other side of the table. He sits beside him, and leans over, showing him the profile he had made. "Just look, it came out so great."
Matthew watches as Jiwoong swipes through the profile. It was nice to see he picked good photo's of him, and was glad he didn't write anything weird in the 'about me' section. However, it didn't change the fact that this was made completely against his will.
"You know I don't want to date right now." He directs that at his more sensible friend, and feels hopeful at the soft gaze he receives in return. The two had been working together for years, if anyone should understand his boundaries, it's Hanbin.
"It's been two years since he broke your heart Matthew, don't you think it's time to put yourself back out there?"
"Ugh not you too!" Matthew huffs. His mood only got worse now that Hanbin had brought up his ex. He didn't want to think about that bastard, not after the damage he did to his life. He preferred to leave that all in the past, along with love, but it's not like people are looking for love on dating apps anyway. "Do you really think I'd find anyone serious on this? I guarantee you everyone on that app is looking for a hookup."
"Not everyone." Hanbin replies.
"How about you just give it a chance- take a look," Jiwoong shows the phone to Matthew again, this time presenting the profile of some random person on the app.
Matthew didn't bother to read anything about this guy, losing interest the second he saw that the only pictures he had uploaded were of his abs. "There is no way he's looking for a relationship."
"Okay, maybe he's not the best person to start with..." Jiwoong swipes away quickly, then swipes again, and three more times until he settles on a profile. "Ooh this guy seems nice."
There was a sudden confusion that washed over Matthew as he looked at the profile. He leans forward to examine the picture, feeling a strange sense that they must have met at some point. Before he even had a chance to investigate his profile, he see's Jiwoong swipe right, and a heart animation pops up on screen reading: 'It's a match!'
His eyes widen, and he tries to grab the phone, but Jiwoong slaps his hand away. "What are you doing?"
"I'm gonna message this guy."
Matthew winces and throws his head back in frustrated acceptance. The last thing he wanted was for Jiwoong to message this random person, especially knowing how bold the man is when he's flirting, but it's not like grabbing the phone would stop him. Once Jiwoong had his mind on something, he was relentless, and since he was the one who made the account, he could access it from anywhere.
Besides, it was only texting, it's not like he had to meet up with the guy.
"He wants to take you to dinner tonight."
"What?! Say no-"
"I've already agreed to it." Jiwoong smirks, completely unbothered by Matthew's protest. "Don't be mad, he seems like a nice person, and you've gotta start somewhere."
This had really gone from zero to a hundred. Matthew didn't like the idea of having a dating profile, let alone actually having to go on a date with someone. He was fine being single, his life was great, he didn't need a boyfriend to fuck everything up again. There was no way he was going to meet this stranger tonight; no amount of convincing could change his mind.
