Niall's Pov

"Hey dude" I said as Jacob entered our room.

"Hi" he answered, plopping his bag down on his bed.

"What's up?"

He sat on his bed, "nothing"

"Ok then" I chuckled.

A silence fell over us as I resumed flicking through my phone.

Jacob has been acting weird for the past few weeks but I'm left clueless to why. He's never acted this way before. I haven't really talked to him since last time in the courtyard when we got cut off from our conversation. He's my best mate, why's he acting this way towards me?

I looked over at him, typing on his computer as he kicked off his shoes.

"Um, what's wrong?" I asked awkwardly as he looked over at me.

"Nothing" he simply answered before resuming his typing.

I sighed, "I know something's up"

"Nothing is up"

"Yeah there is"

"No there's not" he scoffed.

"We've been mates for eight years, tell me what's wrong"

"You really want to know what's wrong?" he raised an eyebrow.

"Yes"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am"

"You're dating my ex, isn't that like a bro code?" he answered as I stared blankly at him.

what? He's been acting weird cause Tabitha and I are dating? What the fuck? He's the one who cheated on her and its not her fault she caught him. She never deserved to be treated like that. Why can't he let her be treated right?

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I said blankly as I stared at him.

He looked down at his phone, "you broke a bro code"

"How is that a bro code?" I asked.

"She's my ex, mates don't date each other's exes"

"You fucking cheated on her, why would you care?" I almost shouted.

"Doesn't matter"

"Yes it does"

He shrugged, "well, she's my ex"

"So?"

"Well..." he said, "you're my best mate, isn't that a tad awkward?"

"Not really"

"How?"

I rolled my eyes, "I've known her for ten years now, so no"

"I still recon it's awkward"

"How is it awkward?"

"It just is"

"Are you trying to get me to break up with her?"

"Well, that's what mates do, right?" he answered.

My fist tightened, "what?"

"Yeah, real mates don't date each other's exes"

"And real mates don't make you break up with their girlfriend for no reason"

"Not for no reason" he said.

"For what then? What do you benefit from this?"

He thought about it for a second, "I dunno"

"Then why do you want me to break up with her?"
