George had been against the whole idea of advertising for a new member - the two others both knew he hated change. It took him a while to settle with Carolynne.
But they needed a listener in order to be more 'well-rounded' as Lockwood had said, given that neither him, Carolynne or George were Listeners. It was logical enough but George still wasn't too fond - maybe that's why Lockwood left to take an ad out in the papers when George had left to do the shopping - iy was his turn this week - which meant he was leaving Carolynne home alone. He didn't like the idea of it after what had happened with the other night but she reassured him she'd lock the door and keep the windows closed. He left after that and didn't leave the door step until he heard Carolynne lock the door.
"Did you put specifically a girl?" Carolynne asked Lockwood after they'd walked into the kitchen together.
"Yes," he chuckled, "I did." Carolynne had expressed how much she didn't want another boy walking through the door. As much as she loved the boys she lived with they were a pain in the neck and she'd much prefer a girl to confide in.
