𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 - her hand gliding along the banister. There was a shift in the air around half way up and she felt the dreaded fear settle in the pit of her stomach weighing her down.
"Knocking's back." Lucy spoke, there was a tremor in her tone, "getting louder."
"It stopped," Lucy hesitantly spoke again as she stepped onto the landing behind the other girl. "As soon as I stepped onto the landing, something knows we're here."
Lockwood glanced down at the thermostat on his belt, "temperature's dropping."
"Well that was a bit obvious," Carolynne spoke for the first time since they left the kitchen - almost shivering. "And here I thought downstairs was bad."
"Right, torches off.'' Lucy told them as she turned her own off, "I need to tune in."
"Pick a door," Lockwood told them, "any door."
Lucy looked to Carolynne and gestured to the one farthest from them, the taller girl nodded. "We'll go with the furthest."
Lockwood glanced down at the two girls, "why?"
